I put my first order into TCWO on Monday morning for a XP 1700+ OEM. 2 hours later it dropped from $73 to $68. I sent them and email and even tried to call them (on Monday) asking them for a price reduction. The chip didn't ship until Tuesday evening. I finally got ahold of them on Wed morning and they said I couldn't get the price adjustment because I should have called them. I did try to call but once they put me on hold for 12 minutes and I hung up. The second time they just hung up on me.

It may be a good price but TCWO has horrible customer service (at least from my one isolated inicident). Anybody else would have easily done the price adjustment, especially for a new customer. Are these guys always like this?

meh. just get a credit card with decent online fraud protection. i'm not sure what "threadcrapper" is supposed to mean, but I'd assume its a reference to my perceived effort to attack the thread. that's not the case, i'm just trying to understand why it's a deal. if, for example, someone had determined that chips newegg was selling were a specific stepping, that might be relevant. but just the fact that newegg now sells a chip for the same price as many others.... who cares. if you all enjoy calling me a n00b, go have fun, i was l33t back when you were on AOL, lol. you can call me a n00b when you figure out how to hack my MPX2's bios to allow full multiplier adjustments.

in conclusion, fúck you, fúck you, you're cool, i'm out.

Yes, you are out for at least a week. When you return, I hope you have learned to show a little more respect for our forums and your fellow members.

Try reading the posts before yours. The chips Newegg is selling are mostly the AGOIA stepping, which are overclocking to around 1.8ghhz with minimal effort (fully utilizing the 166mhz speed on the KT333 boards). Now compare that 1.8ghz 166mhz fsb to a 1.8ghz Athlon XP 2200+ 133mhz FSB and you have better performance (in theory, not sure if the Tbred has a pure performance lead in terms of architecture over a same speed .18 chip) with the overclocked 1.8ghz processor (due to the higher fsb). Getting a 220$ processor for 70$ (assuming you can get the overclock) is a hell of a deal, and even if you don't get the overclock, buy another one, try again, and sell the old one on ebay ;) or return it. You gotta read the posts a little better next time.

I ordered a 1600+ from newegg on friday. It got here Tuesday, and was one of the more desireable steppings... AGOIA Y. I'm running it at 1600 mhz right now (due to fsb limitation) at default 1.75 c/v. This stepping is rumored to run 1700-1900 mhz overclocked, depending on the chip you get and the cooling you use. Also, you have the option of extending the warranty to 1 year if you pay 5 dollars extra.

For god sake, I swear that AMD cpu is the most heat non-resistant POS, unlike Intel...

1 1G duron (d@mn heavy heat sink fall off after moving pc) + Athalon (forget to connect fan) go to heaven...

running a 800 duron now..

A few question..

1. How much performance I will gain if I switch from 800 duron to XP 1600 ?
2. Does ECSk7s5a support it ?
3. Everytime I choose shut down PC in win2k, it reboot itself instead, I am puzzled, I need to hard power up..

Pls advice..

thanks in advance..

I've heard that the L1 bridges on the XP processors are cut with deeper grooves than the old Athlons and Durons. Does this make these bridges harder to connect. Can anyone link me to some site that show a tutorial on how to do this.

TIA!

it should be a pretty nice jump.
2. Does ECSk7s5a support it ?
yes.

hmm...not sure..i know that those ecs motherboards are pretty picky about the power supply...perhaps you could look into that.

Dude, all I meant was that you were new to the site. I don't doubt your abilities at anything technical at all. And because you quoted my favorite line from
Half Baked, you're cool in my book. :)

Chill!

Which one is the best deal for non overclockers...?

mac

If you are not an overclocker, then it probably won't matter if you score 9400 3dmarks or 10,000 3dmarks.
The little things like raw numbers won't matter.

Along the same lines, you probably would not be able to tell the speed difference between a stock XP1600+ and a stock XP1900+.
So the best choice for non-overclockers is the cheapest CPU, (XP1600+), not the fastest stock rated. (Even though when overclocked it is the fastest).

The nice thing about that is "if" you need a little extra speed (which you probably won't notice), you can always spend 10 minutes and overclock it later.

BTW, as has been pointed out, Newegg's high volume sales means they always have the latest steppings, and this again has proven to be true with these CPU's.
AGOIA and AROIA are what you will get, (99% probability) unless a newer stepping comes out.
That's what I get. That's what all others are getting in overclockers forums.

Be very cautious with other venders.
Many of them will hand pick out the cherry's like AGOIA/AROIA, and will only sell the poor steppings cheap, while charging a premium for the good steppings.
Also, have seen some of the low Pricewatch CPU venders offering ZERO warranty on OEM CPU's, unless you also buy a HSF from them at same time!!!!! Read the fine print!!!!

RobsTV:

I wonder what kind of temperture you got for 166*10.5 by using $5 fan? I know it can be still stable even it's very high. 60?

While I find Mike3411's belligerence unpleasant, I do believe that he has one point of legitimacy: It's not necessary to post a Pricewatch deal on AT Hot Deals. Perhaps the only exceptions would be a astonishingly low price on a product (i.e. "Price mistake" :) ). I check Pricewatch regularly and was aware that XP1600 CPUs were selling in the mid-60s.

And what is the deal with NewEgg and Pricewatch? Shortly after DaHan posted the $66 NewEgg price, NewEgg was selling the CPU for $70, but Pricewatch had the green arrow next to it signifying a price DEcrease.

All that being said--If NewEgg lowers its price again, then I'll be many dollars poorer.

I have the KK266-R. BTW, the problem is what happens when you put a XP in the board, not the bios alone. Either you will get it working or not, it's worth the $66, you can sell the chip for that or more later if you have to. I would of bought one and tried it, except I've a P4 1.6a @2.2gig now. The KK266 with 1Gig Athlon OC to 1.3Gig will be my back up computer.

50c to 52c under severe load is all it hits at that speed.
The following HSF comparison that included the GC68 with stock quiet SVC fan showed 43c under load, and with better Delta fan 36.4c.

If you have the money, I would go for the Asus A7V333. It's top of the line right now, and not that much more expensive than the rest. It would be a wise investment.
Hope this helps a little!

It's actually written on the core itself. Try looking on the core. I think it's the first line of all the mumbo jumbo written on the chip. :)
