If you don't do any o/c then I can see a warranty being OK, but from all the CPUs I delt with, I have NEVER seen them fail after their initial burn in period. Never.

So what good is a 15 or 30 or even 1 year warranty?

For O/C, I think it depends on the core. I also read that the 1600+ can't o/c as well as the 1700 & 1800+ can.

That won't work without some special cooling. For 1800 you basically need nothing more than to turn bus clock from 133 to 138 which just about every retail/stock cooler and memory stick would be able to support.

but 1600+ xp allow you to use all the bandwitdh from pc2700 and higher... great an 1800+ at 138mhz fsb... woohoo. ;)

i just talked with someone who got two xp 1600+ cpus from newegg. both got up to 1800mhz and 1840mhz respectively. hope you all have some good ram ;)

AGOIA 1600 is popular with KT333 motherboards it seems because it can be overclocked to 166x10.5 =1743 MHz there without any special RAM but PC2700. It seems that is harder to do with standard Palomino XP 1600. Why, I have no idea.
If you are connecting L1 bridges then AGOIA or not doesn't matter much to you for you can overclock freely untill your CPU dies.

What if I use Crucial PC2100, I already have it and dont feel like shelling out more for PC3000.

Do you think I could overclock it high and hit 166mhz fsb with crucial?

Thanks Dew042.

Do you think it would be worth it to wait for a 1700+ Thoroughbred core?

crucial can do 150fsb pretty easily. more perhaps, but you really need kt333 board to good to get all of it out of a 1600+ (pci dividers)...

Why is this such a hot deal? Are you people incabable of checking pricewatch or ordering from places other than newegg? After 2 clicks I found 4 other sites that have this for as cheap or cheaper than Newegg.... I don't have anything against newegg, in fact I quite like the site, but the way you people are getting all excited and worrying about them running out of stock is ridiculous....

I also read that the 1600+ can't o/c as well as the 1700 & 1800+ can.

Actually the opposite holds true in most cases. The majority of XP1600+ CPU's overclock higher than most XP1700+ and 1800+ CPU's.
Most "locked" XP1600+ easily hit 1670MHz, or XP2000+ speeds simply by increasing FSB to 160MHz from 133MHz, using cheap air cooling.

I have now "upgraded" twice, first from XP1700+ to XP1600+, and then again from XP1800+ to XP1600+ , with Epox 8kha+ KT266A board.
Using $10 air cooling HSF, and both XP1600+ CPU's run stable at 171MHz, (XP2200+) but at stock voltage, everyday speed is set to 166x10.5.
XP1700+ couldn't hit 1600MHz, and XP1800+ couldn't hit 1650MHz. All CPU's were unlocked.

Check out the overclocking forums, and you will see why the XP1600+ is the hottest selling chip for overclockers.
what makes this a Hot Deal is that the Best cores are what Newegg is selling, AGOIA and AROIA. XP2000+ speed for $66

Here is how XP's breakdown.
XP1500+ = 133x10 = 1.33GHz
XP1600+ = 133x10.5 = 1.40GHz
XP1700+ = 133x11 = 1.47GHz
XP1800+ = 133x11.5 = 1.53GHz
XP1900+ = 133x12 = 1.60GHz
XP2000+ = 133x12.5 = 1.67GHz
XP2100+ = 133x13 = 1.73GHz
XP2200+ = 133x13.5 = 1.80GHz

Here is the HSF that has no problem with this XP1600+ @ XP2000+ (on sale $5.99)
Review of above cheap fan.

best service, fastest shipping and by far the best rma policy. that's why. they also do high-volume selling, so you are assured the newest steppngs.

those other top picks on pricewatch are mostly shady vendor and you might get your item, maybe. an maybe it'll actually be what you ordered. newegg is on time and accurate most of the time. all of the time for me.

have fun with the pricewatch vendors.

the 1600 xp is a great chip because of its muliplier.
This stepping rocks.
newegg offers the best service.
$66 shipped is a great price.
This price point is perfect for upgrades form durons, old t-birds, p3, and celerons.

I'm considering one even I don't think i'll have any major use for it.

PW finds plenty of 1600+ for 66, 1700+ for 72 and 1800+ for 83. Either AMD and/or OEMs are dumping or they are making way for T-breds...

Which one is the best deal for non overclockers...?

I would still recommend if you live outside of CA. then order from NEWEGG. But if you live in CA. then order from TCWO.
Just my advice.

Lol. I've personally ordered from 2 of the 4 companies that sell it for <= newegg's price, with absolutely no problems. While AGOIA stepping may be a relevant factor, do you _know_ that the ones newegg is selling are this revision? Or are you just guessing? It's nice that newegg has a relatively long 30-day warrenty, but another company listed on pricewatch (smk components, who I have also ordered from in the past) costs $2 more and has a 60-day warrenty.

again, I'm not saying this isn't a good purchase, even worth remarking, but to classify it as a "hot deal" is silly, and the amount of excitement over this is amusingly absurd. perhaps there is a good reason to be excited, but no one has explained it to me.

werk: you're calling me a n00b? just because I only recently signed up for AT forums does not in any way indicate my computer experience.... I've been reluctant to sign up for these boards to their extreme scarcity of accurate technical information, even the "highly technical" board is filled with misguided inaccuracies. i don't want to start a debate over the relative merits of the AT forum, and I won't condescend to try and justify my non-"n00b" status, but your insulting comment appears to be indicative of extreme ignorance and misplaced elitism. I think it's pathetic that you merely dismiss my point, a point that has yet to be, in my opinion, reasonably refuted. it would serve you well to actually consider arguments before dismissing them irrelevant.

your smk has a Overall Rating: 5.19 on resellerratings
I am glad your experice with them has been good.
But some of us prefer a slightly higher rating, newegg has 9.45 rating.

If newegg has it for the same price as these other pricewatch vendors, it is a hot deal.

oh, and mr. newbie, please don't threadcrap.

also, don't feel insulted by being called a newbie, we will educated you with all our misguided technical heart.
