its hard to get a sense since playing against the AI in the demo is very easy.

a human opponent would counter with upgrades of their own, along with pressure on your economy. will be a different scene...wish the demo had multiplayer, i'm dying to try it against a human.

speaking of the first one, does anyone know of a cheat code to win a single player game? I only finished 2 of the three campaigns but wouldn't really want to play through them again to do the last one.

I predict SC2 will be like the new Star Trek movie. The original fans will hate it, everyone else will love it, and it will make money.

I don't see why they used the SC IP at all, that demo felt much more like Red Alert 3 than Supreme Commander.

Well I'm sure this game doesn't just say F-U to 40yrs of story and rewrite their own.

No, that would be where the analogy breaks down. But it's pretty accurate up to that point.

The two games bear no resemblance to each other. Their stories do, but gameplay doesn't, not really. The "strategic zoom" is still there, and orders can be queued, but that's about it. The economy is totally different, upgrades are totally different, scale is totally different, nothing is the same. SC doesn't have 40 years behind it, but SC2 is still one big FU to it.

Well the SP was never like the MP in supcom.

Given what we can play in the demo (which isn't much) it appears that everything that made supcom great is still there, and that the UI is improved quite a bit.

A few early nitpicks would be that multiple engineers can't be selected for construction. The new economy will take some getting used to, but it's not all that bad. I like the research concept a lot and it seems to add another layer of strategy to the game.

you can have one engineer start and have the others assist him, i ended up putting the main engineer on a hotkey.

From what I've seen in the demo, the game has definitely been dumbed down, both in terms of game play and UI. From aircraft no longer needing fuel, to the multitude of little things that are now gone (i.e. ETA on waypoints, quick info on a unit's capabilities from a mouse over, etc.), it just doesn't feel like the same game at all.

And another one gets the consolitis bug. Ah well, at least there's the other SC2.

I've gotta admit that fuel was really really annoying to take care of on very large maps.

I do miss the mouseover unit capabilities. Hopefully we can ask them to put that back in.

It seems that it was taken out because they have made a herculean effort to minimize the UI.

ALT + f2 and spawn experimentals?

btw you can turn on intel and weapons range overlays in options...they are off by default.

I thought the voice actors in FA were pretty bad (but bareable), but my god the voice overs in Supcom 2 have me cringing. Hopefully most of the game is just the sounds of machines.

Other than that, it's not too bad. It still feels familiar enough. Big points for the research tree. Economy seems really fast now though, but maybe that's just a demo thing. Also experimentals in the demo were piss poor weak, so no more super-units I guess.

Just played the demo and i like it, takes out the annoying parts of supcom. Its simpler than the original game but tbh in this case thats not a bad thing. The whole tech1/2/3 thing in the original game was a pita and the economy was also a bit of a pain.

My only gripes are:

- Still some shooting at shapes in the fog of war, view distance should equal firing range for non artillery units, i didnt build a battleship to destroy that bunch of triangles/squares moving about, i want to see shit blown up!

- Factories paused themselves for some reason, maybe theres an explanation im not sure.

- Clicking attack move then when attempting to click on the map somwhere, the attack move thing would dissapear making me have to select it again. Ive seen this in older buggy games, its rectified by using the keyboard shortcut and clicking fast but its still annoying.

Nvm, just installed the first again and I can play any of the three campaigns right away (patch change or bad memory?)

One thing I noticed is that it didn't install any start menu shortcuts for the game. Guess I'll have to reinstall it and figure out what check box I screwed up the first time.

so i've been reading a few things online and played some of the demo and i don't think this sequel is for me. one of the awesome things about TA was its flow-in/flow-out resources. i understand that the first supcom had that. this just brings it back to just about every other RTS out there. also, small things like not being able to assign multiple engineers to a building are disappointing. definitely sounds like they simplified too many things to get it to work on 360. oh well, i'll get supcom1.

Just make sure you get the gold version for under $20...amazon a week back has it dipping below $10

Is there a maximum amount of stored resources anymore, I don't mind the lack of in/out queue if the max is raised a lot or gone. But I don't want to have to build 100 storage units so that I can save up to buy a big unit.

I bought Supcom1 and expansion for almost full price and was disappointed. They copied the formula of the original TA but for some reason I couldn't get into it. I'm hoping SupCom2 changes that.

I really don't know if I like it. I guess I'll try to adapt but I'm beginning to miss the old complexities.

I really can't tell for sure whether i like it or not until i try the MP.

I'm sure the modding community will have a field day with it too... Blackops for supcom2 please.
