Well, if you have the means, I would definitely play supcom1 with your new rig before supcom2. I think it's on sale on steam, with the add-on.
Killer game.
supcom1 isn't on steam is it?? if so, i'd get it. i prefer steam over the other DD companies.
Unfortunately no, SupCom1 isn't on Steam. You can get it on Impulse though.
its on direct2drive, i prefer that. just the set up files and a cd key.
IIRC once you download it on Impulse you don't need to have the client on to play the games, also the Impulse version has no DRM while D2D has securom.
I can't remember if I ever played the expansion for Supcom1...was there two expansions? Maybe I played the first expansion but not the second. Feels like the game came out 10 years ago but it's not all that old.
I also found the unit limit really annoying. If I want to put in the time and effort in to make a crapload of units, let me do so instead of trying to attack with 200 units at a time or whatever.
A pre-order offering bonus maps doesn't seem like much of a bonus since you can probably just download them from someone who has them.
So even the retail version of Supcom2 will use Steam or is it just the one you pre-order from steam? I imagine they're all the same. Will multiplayer matchmaking also been done through Steam?
SupCom2 is a must buy for RTS fans.
5000, nice, i didnt like the 1000? limit in the original. In fact i think the original unpatched version of the game didnt have a unit limit at all.

would any of you guys be interested in weekly FA games? or Supcom 2 when it is out?
I'll have to check, but I know some people that might be interested. None of us have ever used GPGnet though.
What mods do you like? TVg, BlackOps, 4th Dimension? About a month ago we discovered BlackOps and now play all of our games with it enabled. Oh, and what time zone are you in? We're in Central US.
Ummm, wrong. TA, TA Kingdoms and Supreme Commander have ALWAYS had a unit limit. Its part of the games strategy. While in Warcraft and Starcraft you had population points and some units used one, some used 4 (etc) in TA ALL units use just one point, no matter what they are, including buildings.
This made base building and army building a lot more interesting.
They have to include unit caps because otherwise fiends would spam weak units and kill the game. I guess they increased the cap when they found out people were getting more powerful CPU's.
The only RTS I know of without any population cap is Act of War, and again you could easily kill the game if you spammed cheap units like a madman & filled the map. It was never optimized for multicore and gobs of RAM.
