So after being with SR for about a month, I have to say I'm pretty happy with it. It was a bit spotty at the beginning, but now seems to be reliable 99% of the time: every once in a while the green VOIP light will go off just for about 5 seconds then come right back on. I thought it sounded pretty bad, until I got a different cell phone, and now it seems to sound better. When I used to call home with my old phone, it would often sound like it was breaking up. A different sound then normal "bad cell" sound though, and the rest of my cell calls to other places were clear, so I figured it was just SR. Now with a differnet phone, it sounds just as clear as POTS. So I don't know.

One thing that could be better is the way voicemail works. I don't like having to always login to the website just to listen fom the computer. Also, the free uniden 2.8ghz phones (although great in every other way) like to keep blinking the message indicator, even though I already listened and deleted everything.

Other than that, I'm very happy with the service now. We'll see if there are any more problems, but for now it's great!

The Uniden phones sometimes retain the VM light. Just a known issue with those phones. The user manual makes mention of that and suggests clearing the VM light by holding the PAGE button on the base down for 5 seconds or so.

VM: In addition to the SR web portal you have several other options to check your voicemail:

1. Set it up to send all VMs immediately to email. That way you can listen to your voicemails immediately while working and having your internet open at your email program (i.e. Outlook.)

2. Check emails from any phone by calling your own number, then into the message hit the * key, then your personal pin. If you have set up only one of the 2 numbers with VM you can then hear your VMs. If you have set up both #s you have to choose either 0 or 1.

3. From your SR phone hit 00 to get into your VM area. No need for a pin here, and if you just chose your primary # to be with VM it starts playing your VMs right away.

4. Voicemail notificiation: If you set up VM notification to, say, your cell phone, you will be notified the instant a VM comes in. A phone call comes in from your home number and a VM notification message is played. At the end of the notification message you can hit # and it transports you directly into your VM area to listen to that last message (or any other messages.)

These prices are all over the map. S/R must have a crazy person doing their marketing.

If I were a new S/R customer and got in at a year for $199 or two years at $298 or the 25 month deal for $298, I'd be thinking that I got screwed if the latest deal du jour was for 2 years for $199.

I'd also tell everybody I'd recommended S/R to! I'm thinking about getting new service & then having my # ported over and then cancelling the old service & asking for my money back, just like they have stated in their satisfaction clause.

So I moved my parents over to SR almost a year ago and we need to figure out what to do by May 10th - could someone update me on what current promotions are available, if any? I'll try checking back here through the next week.

Well, since I had just signed up a week and a half ago at $199 for 15 months, I called them and asked for the $199 for 24 months. They said they couldn't adjsut my account. So, I cancelled my existing accouint and ordered a new account with the deal. Kinda stupid process on their end, but hey, it's worth it to me. They will ship a new Gizmo and then I'll send back the old one. I have a new number now too (not too different from the old one). If it all works out, I'll port over my Vonage number anyway.

Just another confirmation that they are having the deal via phone tonight!

Anyone know if these systems are compatible with an alarm system? In otherwords, if you used VOIP in leu of a "land line" phone service, would your alarm system be able to call the company when your alarm is triggered?

Thanks

LOL Ride! Always good for a chuckle.

I'm not complaining too much, honestly, seems like these keep happening. Just gotta keep my eyes open (unlike hte last few weekends) and catch one of these in time. :)

Honestly, I would not go for the $199 for 2 years at this time. I feel they were taking care of us oldtimers as well with the $99 add-on year. They sent me two phone systems with my 13 month renewal at $199. Even with the one phone system everybody got you figure the math to be pretty close. The advantage is that I did not lose my cancellation privileges for the second year at $99. With the "$199 for 2 yrs." deal the second year is considered a bonus year, not subject to any refunds (just in case.)

SR is definitely putting the heat on.

EvilYoda-

At FW someone mentioned that in May SR will have a great deal for renewers. No info was given, but it sounds like if you hang in there until next month you'll get your parents a great deal.

stuman...

Please let me know how your port from Vonage to Sunrocket goes. I'm having a hellova time because I went from Verizon POTS > Sunrocket > Vonage > back to Sunrocket. For some reason my original Verizon POTS > Sunrocket port was still showing up as pending in my account even though it went through.

Right now my primary SR account phone number is 727-771.xxxx (Florida) but my actual SR phone number is 703-xxx-xxxx (Virginia). My 'SR personal numbers' are 727-203-xxxx but both of them error with, 'the number you have reached is not in service'. If I call the 703 number it rings on my SR phone. If I call my own number that's in process of being ported it goes to Vonage (forwarded to my cell).

I've made several calls to SR tech support and wound up with them not being able to understand/comprehend the issue. I was told someone would call me back but of course that didn't happen. I finally got a decent tech on the phone over the weekend. He couldn't fix anything himself but at least he could understand the problems. He said I'd get a response in 2 business days. It's now Monday afternoon and so far nothing but that's how it's been with SR support. Hopefully I'll get something by tomorrow. Otherwise I'm dropping again. This is just too much trouble.

Great price and sunrocket just got going in my area (NM), but fwiw I'll never be w/o either a land line or cell phone again. :frown:

I've been relying on skype, and its been a serious PIA when my crappy isp flakes out, especially since working at home. VOIP gives me an ulcer thinking about it (altho will still mainbly use skype for long distance.)

Question for the techies in here.

Over the weekend, my internet crapped out. I had my ISP send someone out, and after testing the connection, he tweaked something, said he'd fixed the problem, but my modem was screwed and I'd need to replace it.

So $80 later, I'm on the phone with them to set up the new modem. Have it running through all the old wiring (modem-->SR gizmo-->wireless router) and the tech says he spots everything fine, it's all working.

I load up Firefox, and get a message from my ISP saying "sorry, you need to call your ISP to get them to fix something in order for you to connect". ISP on the phone has no clue why I see this, so we restart, ping the ISP website (no problems at all), he pings my computer, router, modem, etc, no worries at all.

Still no dice on connecting.

So finally I bypass everything. Plug straight into the modem with an ethernet cable, and it all works fine.

Here's my question, since everything seemed to be operating fine. Is there a chance something got borked with my gizmo (kinda like my modem mysteriously died after the connection was repaired) in the process of this guy coming out? After an hour on the line with my ISP, we couldn't figure out why my connection worked fine over ethernet and not via my router. I'm going to tinker around with it all again tonight, because I want my phone back. Any suggestions?

Robor-

Let's talk on the phone later tonight. What is your phone #? I'll help you set up the gizmo with your current #. Do you still have your old gizmo, just in case?

PM sent.

Still no call or Email from Sunrocket and I sent them a pretty blunt Email explaining all the problems I've had. Pretty sad that SunRocket's support is so bad we have to resort to forum members assisting one another. :disgust:

Once again, thanks for the help, George! :D

How'd the call go last night? Any luck?

ttown, thanks again for the PM. I'll try reseting the gizmo again tonight and see if I have any luck. At least my internet is back working properly via my router again. :) One down, one to go.

Then again, I may wait a day or two. I'm leaving town for the weekend to visit some friends in upstate NY, so I may take it with me.

OK...We've been totally on Sunrocket now for 1 month...I'm using my existing phone wiring in the house (unplugged the outside incoming line into my house thingy) and I've got to tell ya...we've not had one problem and the conversation quality has been excellent...even wife, who was skeptical at first, thinks its great! Sorry to hear about some of ya'll having problems but we have been quite the opposite...NO PROBLEMS whatsoever! Best HOT DEAL I've done in a long time.

I PMd Robor that I had to postpone the call. My wife wanted some of my time (lucky me, I guess ;) ) and that had to be done. Looking to do that tonight, though.

Excellent! How hard was it to set it up through your home wiring like that?

And yeah, my problems are my own fault, not SR's. My ISP and other hardware borked, and I think I just need to reset the gizmo, which shoulda been pretty obvious to me (but wasn't because I'm a little slow). :p

It was super easy...just went outside to my phone box and unplugged the 2 phone type plugs in the box and Voila...it was done. Just make sure you check your phone line to make sure there is not any voltage going thru them...easy way to check is to use a standard phone, you know the ones that you plug into the wall, and listen when you pick it up to...if you hear anything then you still have voltage coming thru, but if you hear nothing you are ready to go.

Mine is down right now.... anyone else? I'm at work so I can't mess with it, but my wife is at home. She says all lights are lit on the cable modem, and all lights are lit on the gizmo except for "VOIP". Since I don't have a router, I can't get online either. That sucks... why is it like that? I can see if they have an issue and their network isn't working... but it's almost like my gizmo is having issues, and it won't allow traffic to go thru.

I'm guessing your ISP is down...even if all lights are on the modem you could still have an ISP outage. Just a guess. Tell your wife to bypass the Gizmo and connect the modem up to the comp and see if she can get online.
