Sunday Depression

I'd say that no matter what I have going on that day or am looking forward to doing in the coming week, I get absolutely, 100% depressed the moment I wake up on Sunday morning.

I mean, by anyone's standards, I think today was a pretty good day and I have a solid week coming up, including a callback interview for a judicial clerkship tomorrow. I'm sitting around watching football, not doing much of anything, and still inexplicably bummed. It's usually gone by Monday morning, too.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Thanks for the cliffs version of my post, chief. But you missed the call of the question. Do I need to add a poll to make it more obvious?

Kris Kristofferson to the rescue!

:music:
Well I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
An' I shaved my face and combed my hair,
An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I'd smoked my brain the night before,
On cigarettes and songs I'd been pickin'.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid,
Cussin' at a can that he was kicking.
Then I crossed the empty street,
'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken.
And it took me back to somethin',
That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.
:music:
In the park I saw a daddy,
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school,
And listened to the song they were singin'.
Then I headed back for home,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.
:music:

Mine normally sets in around now, not in the morning with the potential of the whole day in front of me. I try to do little things that will make my Monday less miserable (pack breakfast and lunch, iron clothes, clean up).

What court?

I'm pissy every Sunday. I just got home 15 minutes ago and it didn't take long before me and my wife were yelling at each other.

Sundays suck.

I know that EXACT feeling. There isn't a lot going on on a Sunday and its easy to feel bummed. Usually Tennis plus the GF will cure it.

Sounds like you're missing something in your life.

You should try going to a non-denominational church.

Haha, I went to church this morning. Then I sat in traffic coming home, as the hell hole known as the District of Columbia had some sort of motorcade blocking pretty much every way back to I-66 except for across Constitution, which was naturally clogged with tourists, tour busses, and hot dog carts.

Actually, I think I should've stopped for a hot dog. You're right, I am missing something from my life, but I think I have them in the fridge :)

It might be the fact that I sit around on Sundays. I go to school at night and work full time, so it could just be that I'm used to being constantly occupied -- even though I look forward to sitting around the other 6 days.

I'll post back tomorrow with the court and the result. It's a state level clerkship here in VA, I don't think I'm Federal material :)

Yes you should have! Its the little things in life that count. ;)

It sounds like you just don't have much look forward to on Sunday. Maybe you should join something... like a poker night, or some indoor sport, or anything else that is somewhat social.

absolutely. I always mention this...my friends agree too. I completely agree. Maybe it's because you do so much friday & saturday and your circadian rhythm is usually a little messed up, plus you're tired, plus you have the work week ahead?

Nonsense. Go to a non-denominational Cthulhu-worship/barbecue. It's non-denominational because CTHULHU IS THE ONLY DENOMINATION, MORTAL. NOW BOW///~~~

My fiancee offered the same explanation. Basically, going out and having a few beers one or both nights, staying up late, etc and then looking to settle back into the grind just does it to me.

We're kicking around the idea of going out for the baseball game tonight. Our usual bar also happens to be a Red Sox bar, and the Philly in me wants to boo some Sox fans :)

Wow, maybe I just enjoy antisocial behavior! Haha.

I love Sundays--especially during football season. But then again, I think i like football more than the average person. I sometimes have trouble sleeping on Saturdays from the anticipation.
