Interesting article. Anecdotally this has been one of the cooler springs around here that I can remember. We even had snow in early April.

The world has been setting record cold and snow records for the past two-three years now. It is good to see those again after such a strong solar cycle.

Tell that to the areas of earth are MELTING .. smartass.... stubborn people like you help destroy everything about this world

http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=antarctic+ice+shelf+melting

Somebody call the press, antartic ice shelfs melting during its summer.

But it's been there FOREVER!!!1111!!!!1!!!!

Or, like, a hundred years or something.

Is GW happening? Yes, although very slightly (~1 degree C in 150 years). Is it caused by increased CO2? Nobody knows, and anyone who says they do know has an agenda.

An agenda like what?? Continued human civilization?

So an ice shelf that's only been around for a hundred years melts during the summer, and that heralds the imminent demise of civilization?

As I've said before, the earth is warming (a little). Methane and C02 tend to trap heat. I agree with both of these statements. HOWEVER, is the increase in these gases the sole (or even primary) cause of this increase? There are SO many variables influencing climate, some we don't even likely know about, that no one knows for sure.

Reducing air pollution is a worthy goal for a whole host of reasons, I don't understand why people feel the need to latch onto some dubious global destruction scenario in an attempt to sway people to their point of view.

The continued loss of Polar ice in what should be a mini ice age, (remember ships trapped in pack ice for years without a Summer break up) is scary. So is the fifty+ year drought that depopulated the SouthWest American Indians during the Medievel Warm period.

So now it's global cooling to be concerned with? Time to go red!

Build more coal power plants! Better yet, fill the Grand Canyon with coal and light it up!

That would be one hell of a barbecue. Bring the marshmallows!

How are right wingers opposing climate science? It's the left that says that the debate is over, not the right.

I don't think the JD statement of, "How are right wingers opposing climate science? It's the left that says that the debate is over, not the right.", should remain unchallenged. The "right", has been very aggressive in mounting a counteroffensive using very bogus and and unfair tactics in the process. Even going as far as imposing censorship powers in government to edit the work of real scientists.

Face that facts there have been abuses on both sides of the climate debate, but its very possible this sunspot thread is a going no where because sunspot activity may be resuming after a brief minimum activity time.

Al Gore has gone from being worth a couple million dollars when he was VP to 100+ million in just a few years. THIS is why conservatives question it.. because it seems like the people pushing it are just out to make money and not really save the earth. Scientists are not above this influence either, they stand to lose billions (trillions) if this science is debunked.

It may be easy for Fear No Evil to say, "Scientists are not above this influence either, they stand to lose billions (trillions) if this science is debunked."

Have no fear and don't hold your breath, FNE, the science will not be debunked any time soon, maybe you should save your tears for various scientific charlatans who will not be paid big bucks by oil companies and stink thing tanks, to write drivel, if we quit worrying about climate change.

As for the real arbiter of the climate change debate, namely Ma nature, she is just going to be driven by cause and effect.

As for the real scientists working in the field and in the labs, they may end up being paid billions, but if the treat of climate change is not a real danger, they will come to that conclusion
on the basis of the evidence.

Somehow, this doesn't surprise me.

If it really were possible to say "Screw you!" to the basic laws of thermodynamics with something anyone can build in his garage, everyone would have one by now.

I've got a chair that you might be interested in.

It's a legless seat with straps that go around your shoulders. See, you sit on the seat, and the seat is held up by the straps. The straps are held up by your shoulders which are supported by your body, which is held up by the seat!

No more scuff marks on the floor!

Here is an article that might help you. If that is possible.

http://www.esd.ornl.gov/projects/qen/transit2.html

Let's let professional scientists do their research. We've had enough conservative echo-chamber armchair climate experts affect policy--these last 8 years.

Last thing I want is RushCo. doling out any more scientific misinformation.
And what are we to conclude from the paper you linked?

The link was meant to help explain to the poster that ask the question about explaining ice age oscillation.

Cold-warm oscillations are fairly well understood, and as the OP maybe meant to allude to--eventually the earth will cool down, and then warm up...probably over and over...so this article talks about that.

So saying that the earth will eventually cool down is a safe bet, no big prediction. It's just a matter of a geologic time scale.

The irony here is that the sun's activity--if it has decreased the last few decades--as in the OP story, really makes a great argument and furthers evidence that our global warming (atmospheric temperature and sea temperature) is caused by man's activities.

Logically, if you have some natural phenomena that would induce global cool-down occurring, and yet there is an overall increase in temperature, plus ice melts---that is pretty strong circumstantial evidence that human activities are artificially raising temps.
The link explains the sudden and potentially extreme nature of hot/cold oscillations on relatively small time scales... it does not explain long-term climate oscillations.

So Halliburton really did bribe Bush to start a war with Iraq?

I was just commenting on this the other day. Last year in Boston by mid April it was warm out, I would be out at night in shorts and a tshirt. This year I still need a light jacket at night, in early May. Last Summer was extraordinarily cool as well. In August 2008 we only hit 80 ONCE.
