Summer Beer

Went out to eat with a friend at Domani Star in Doylestown, sitting right in the road. Outdoor Macadam-Based Dining at its finest! 😛

It was a BYOB, so I stopped in the GIANT to get something to complement the meal. Saw that Yuengling had a new (to me) Golden Pilsner. I thought it might make a decent (enough) summer beer. YMMV, but I thought it came through with flying colors, for the price.

Not that it matters to me terribly, but it doens't even have all that many calories, while having far more flavor than any of those crapola light beers. Light beers are not beer, imho. This Pilsner is.

My friend is an artist, and she liked the way my beer and water with lemon looked . . . a symphony in yellow, if you will . . . so she snapped a pic. I share because I care.

Yea, I was pleased with that one. It does make a good summer beer. My last purchase was Guinness Blonde. That's crisp, light and fruity. Bonus points for being kinda sorta local. It's brewed in Baltimore.

It doesn't get much more local than Yuengling, though. That's brewed in Pottsville, PA. If you're in the area, the factory tour and beer tasting at the end is a must try.

The Yuengling Pilsner is on my list for "after-ride" beers. I can easily think of dozens of beers worse bang for the buck. They're relatively cheap in the mid-south, because of a brewery located in Memphis. When on sale, It's sometimes cheaper than Budweiser. How can I say no to that?

New Glarus 'Totally Naked' was always my Summertime fav.

Nice and refreshing, smooth and easy to drink, and an actual beer with some body (not flavored water like most "light" beers) but barely any 'weight' to it.

Actually not had it in at least a few years, but now I might have to go grab a six'er lol. Not sure I recall seeing the Yuengling golden pilsner, but I've not shopped for beer or been in a liquor store or department in maybe a decade.

Beach: Corona or Landshark
Backyard grilling: Sierra Nevada
Post Grass Mow: Session IPA like Heavy Seas Crossbones

Exactly. It is like saying "Pizza? Yuck, it is summer time! I only eat Tacos in summer! Pizza is for Spring when it isn't so hot out." Yet, just about every beer fan that I know thinks they have to be seasonal otherwise they are not worth drinking.

I'll take a good drink no matter what the season. I'll take a bad drink...never.

Maybe it is because I'm not that much of a beer person. I like a very sour beer or a very dark angry stout. But again, I'll happily drink either of those on a hot day or a freezing cold day.

My favorite summer beer is the North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner. I love that beer on a hot day, a cool night or any time in between.

Off topic, I was just looking up beer reviews and was looking at the top 250 beers according to reviews on beeradvocate.com/beer/top-rated/. Not a single Pilsner in the top 250. Then you read the reviews and you realize it's just beer snobs trying to out do each other. They are just as bad as wine connoisseurs.

Out of curiosity I bought a 4 Pack of IPA described as tasting like Grapefruit. Opened one up, tasted it, yup it tastes like Grapefruit juice...I hate Grapefruit. Still drank all 4, there's Alcohol still, so....

I don't know. I'm highly tuned into what's going on outside. If I considered every day exactly the same, I'd consider my life shit.

I mean I totally don't fancy a full roast dinner with gravy and treacle pudding when it's 30°c, but maybe that's just me.

Anyway cider in the summer for me please! I tend to line them up on a hot bike ride.

Noone is insisting that you do anything or drink anything you don't want to. What you choose to "not experience" is your life choice. Have at it.

Many of the rest of us will occassionally venture outside in the summer, going out to eat in outdoor cafes or going to raucous, fun lawn parties, often with a pool, interacting, you know, with other people.

Horsehoes and badminton, for instance, are fun yet problematic to set up inside, tu as compris?

And, while experiencing the joy of interacting with others in the great outdoors, we may well opt to choose a lighter summer beer that goes with that sort of experience.

Please don't feel so threatened by that choice that you (and others) feel the need to pound your chest and threadcrap in a summer beer thread.
