Time for a suit upgrade. My last one from Nordstroms is on it's last legs and I need a new one to perform in.

Mens Wearhouse is having a sale going on - are they any good? I've never been there before so I don't really know what to expect. Yelp reviews tell me they have a hard-selling, pushy sales staff.

Do you have a Macy's nearby? They have sales every other week and you can get decent starter suits. Amazon had some $99 dollar suits a few weeks ago that people said were ok, check the Hot Deals forum for the links.

I don't need a starter suit, persay but a nice suit for around 5 or 600.

And I DO have a Macy's nearby.

If you want to spend that much I would probably stay away from MW. Even at a Macy's sale I don't think they have suits for that much. Maybe you should wait for a sale at Brooks Brothers.

Thankfully, I don't have wear a suit for my job. I definitely want to pick one out though (grey) and maybe a couple of sports jackets for going out and such.

Honestly though, can people tell if you're wearing an expensive one or not unless it's horribly fitted?

Jos. A. Bank is where I get my suits from you can get a good suit for 5-600. Did pick up a 3 piece pin-stripe suit that was appraised for $800 from Salvation Army. Didn't even need any tailoring.

I found it really depends on your size though. I'm a 40L so a lot of places don't carry a wide variety in my size...

Just go to K&G and buy 2 suits for $200 (or 2 suits for $150).
No one will notice(or care) where your suit is from.

Nordstroms Rack if you have one. Pick up a $1200 suit for $600.

Crappy cheap suits look like cheap suits and do not hold up well to dry cleaning. Do not buy from macy's or mens Warehouse if you want a GOOD suit.

are you fat?

is this going to be a work suit?

if the answer is "no" to both questions, go with a navy armani or brioni.

I wear suits everyday for work (sucks). Men's Warehouse has suits to fit any price range. Macy's is good option if you're looking for name brands.

IMHO 75% of how a suit looks is how well it fits. A good fit on a $200 suit will look better than a poor fit on a $600 suit.

If you're looking for a deal TJ Maxx often carries suits. I've seen Nautica and Ralph Lauren suits there for 300 bucks. It really is hit or miss on the sizes though.

Yep. I highly recommend going to a tailor.

i also went to MW and got 2 jny suits, taylored, some shirts, and a few ties to go with them for under 700. they fit great and look great too. the service i had was great also, not pushy, but the guy knew what size i was when i walked in the door. service was top notch, plus, if you travel you will have free alterations for life, and there will be a MW nearby most likely if you need anything done to it.

If you were near Seattle I'd recommend you to a tailor I've used.

Since you are in California - I will recommend a mens boutique store called Patrick James - in most large NorCal towns.

If you buy a house brand suit from them it will cost you about $800, their tailors are masters, and it will be as nice as the $2,000 Zegna suit that is on the rack right next to it.

Brooks Brothers is having a sale this weekend if you have their corporate membership through your employer.

25% off everything (normal is 15% with the corp discount), just have to bring your card and the email.

I am with this. People who say to buy a "cheap" suit and have it tailored are just blowing smoke. I can tell a good fabric from a not-so-good fabric and it is pretty evident to people who wear suits a lot.

Brooks Brothers has a semi-annual sale in the June-ish timeframe (around fathers day). A Madison 1818 can be had for about 520 each during that sale.

They had a nice factory sale in NYC last month. I picked up two Golden Fleece suits for $800. Had them tailored do me for another 300. For 1100 I picked up 3.5k worth of suits and they look damn nice.

JAB = suck.
