i'm getting tired of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six book, too much action, not much detail and plot.

What books do you people recommend? Not just for me, but for everyone :) Also, give a *LITTLE* teaser to the book if you can ;)

I'm thinking of reading The Giver, i reemmber kids back in 7th grade were rading it, i never had the chance to yet

Have you read "Without Remorse" by Clancy? An excellent read, I must say.

no, haven't yet, i'm gonna finish off Rainbow Six first, no point in reading 200 pages then quiting ;) I'll read that one next or a smaller book. I'm reading too much action and modern setting books. Theres alot of books out, i wanna find a book about life, the future, and sci fi.

i just finished reading "i,robot". that book is awesome. i'm in love with robots now. :) do u know how his other robot books are?? right now i'm *finally* starting hitchhiker's guide.

the giver is a good book too. easy read but deep storyline.

here's my recommendation. i read it awhile ago but i thought it was really interesting. the comforts of madness by paul sayer. it's about life in a mental institution seen through the eyes of a catatonic patient.

"A Boy's Life by McCammon I think (about southern life through the eyes of a kid)"

I am rereading McCammon's The Wolf's Hour for the 3rd time. Its about a werewolf that spies for the British during WWII and yes it sounds stupid but its really good :). Boy's Life was the required summer reading project at my highschool a couple years.

Brian Lumley's Necroscope series has something for just about everybody. Just go check it out Lumley's site.

The Stand: Complete and Uncut - definitely cool...
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
The Trigger - Arthur C. Clarke & Michael Kube McDowell
Light of Other Days - Arthur C. Clarke & Stephen Baxter

Just finished The Trigger, working on that last one still... they're both pretty good. The top two I've read three or four times each, both are excellent. :)

For Fun:

Enders Game by Orson Scott Card
The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordon (*warning: This series is 9 books long currently and he is still writing them. But it is the best fantasy series I have ever read, besides the classic Hobbit and LOTR)

For Thought:

Cosmos by Carl Sagan (best book I ever read maybe)
The Stand by Stephen King
The Trial by Franz Kafka
Crime & Punishment by Fydor notgoingtoattempttospellhislastname

This is just a quick off the top of my head. If you want more, just ask.

I love Robert Ludlum's spy novels -- especially The Bourne Identity (and the sequels to this story). The Holcroft Covenant, The Matarese Circle and The Matarese Countdown were also excellent novels. Exodus by Leon Uris and A Town Like Alice (Nevil Shute) were touching if you're into 'sappy' stories.

"Genome" by Matt Ridley is a good non-fiction read. It's basically a look at the interaction of one's genetic makeup and one's environment and how this affects development, etc. Really a fascinating book, and I'm not just saying that cuz I'm a bio-geek by trade. I think even a non-bio person would enjoy it, the author does a good job of not getting over the head of the average person terminology-wise.

My $0.02
