OP: Try some Franziskaner

Why lol?
It is good beer.

I don't really like hefeweizen so I didn't suggest any.

I think that's the lol, I'm not sure he'd be down with a stout if the first one he's ever liked was Blue Moon :p

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend a stronger drink like stout or porter for a beginner. Probably something that is light in both hops and body.

Alright, but in that class I prefer Fat Tire or Full Sail Amber.

We're kind of in the beginner beer stage though, so none of those will work, the OP is clearly into light and fruity. While Black Butte is like a rich creamy black coffee (but beer) and the Ales are beer as beer should taste like, a delicate combination of sweet malt and bitter fragnant hops. God forbid someone recommend Spaten Optimator! :p

well, it's pretty far from a hefe, which is what he was looking for. Though, any Sammy is good.

Yeah, if the OP wants a hefe, just go with Widmer. Not to my tastes though, none of the Hefes or Blue Moon are gonna getting high ratings among beer snobs.

The OP's profile says he lives in the Bay Area. I suggest he pick up some Sierra Nevada Pale and go from there.

Thought of another good Hefe, Augustiner. I'm not too big on Erdinger, Hacker-Pschorr or Koenig Ludwig. I saw Koenig Ludwig, Augustiner, Loewenbrau, and Franziskaner the most when I was vacationing in Bavaria but Franziskaner is my favorite. Another one that I saw but did not get the chance to drink was Haufbrau. Also try some of the Schwarzbier too.

I think Blue Moon is okay. In the wheat beer department, I prefer Hoegaarden and Sunshine. Give'em a try some time.

Lingenkugel. Their Summer Shandy and Berry Weiss are pretty good, esp for beer noobs.

I also second the Franziskaner. (love me some hefs)

Shock Top is similar to blue moon, but hard as hell to find. If you like that type of beer try magic hat #9, Long trail blackberry wheat, and longtrail's october fest/most pumpkin beers

Shock Top's actually an Anheuser-Busch brand. It's not bad, but there's better out there.

On the blond beer front, I've been infatuated with Mothership Wit lately; same folks who make Fat Tire.

boddingtons!

Yup. I know several people who don't drink beer but like Boddingtons.

Boddingtons is very smooth. I like it a lot, but it doesn't have that "Hefe" taste to me. (thank goodness)

That's because it's not a wheat. It's an English pub ale. It's smooth because it's likely being injected with nitrogen at the tap to give it that creamy, smooth head.

Yeah, it has one of those nitrogen canisters in the can.

Since we are not all suggesting wheat beers, This is my favorite brewery at the moment. The Framboise is awesome!

American-style wheats are like training wheels before you get to the real thing. The yeast used in classic (European-style) wheat beers is a bit of an acquired taste for the American palate. If you like Blue Moon, explore other American-style wheats, then move up to truer-to-style American offerings, and then finally the real thing from the motherland.

American-style wheats:
Harpoon UFO
Widmer
Shocktop

European-style American wheats:
Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat
Allagash White
Stoudt's Weizen

The real thing:
Weihenstephaner
Konig Ludwig Weiss
Paulaner
