Subway is a dietary disaster :
Does Subway sandwich bread have too much sugar?

Irish court's Subway bread ruling highlights hidden sugar in ...

The ruling stated that Subway rolls have too much sugar to meet the country's legal definition of bread, according to the Irish Independent. Under a 1972 tax law, the sugar content of bread cannot exceed 2 percent of the weight of flour in the dough.Oct 8, 2020

I've always found it funny multinationals will bitch about any local regulations not to their liking. They can always take their ball and go home. Want to do business in a place? Follow their rules.

Yes, this even applies to PRC.

I turned into a SIMP because I ate at Subway.

Fake meat on what amounts to a high sugar / carbohydrate Doughnut. They should have warning labels on their products so diabetics and similar don't go into a blood sugar shock.

I cooked for a sugar-sensitive family member for awhile & learned a lot about it. Back when I was studying nutrition, I read a book about sugar addiction. Basically, there were 3 categories:

1. Treats (soda, candy, cake, etc.)
2. Bread (carbs)
3. Pasta (carbs)

However, they also found out the same effect of genetic sugar addiction happened with two addition ingestible items:

4. Alcohol (while it doesn't convert to sugar in the body, it has the double whammy of affecting blood sugar & also giving you a buzz)
5. Cigarettes (double whammy of being addictive & being up to 20% sugar, and has the effect of affecting blood sugar)

Most people don't recognize sugar as a true addiction, let alone recognize people who eat high quantities of bread & pasta as "sugar addicts". Not only that, but alcohol & cigarettes also affect things like blood sugar ("alcohol increases insulin secretion and prevents the liver from releasing glucose, causing heavy drinkers to be susceptible to hypoglycemia" & "insulin helps blood sugar enter cells, but nicotine changes cells so they don’t respond to insulin, which increases blood sugar levels.")

With food, they've managed to add hidden sugars to nearly every packaged & restaurant food on the planet, so it's kind of hard to get away from if you don't cook at home, which is a big reason why I started doing meal-prepping. We have a HUGE obesity & diabetes problem in America, primarily due to a shift in our daily dietary intake from processed foods. It's really crazy what's happening with the Standard American Diet, which is why I spam my macros tutorial so often!

The USDA food triangle is a dietary disaster...yes diabetes is at epidemic levels. It's the epidemic TV News and all the rest won't talk about..and it's largely a young persons disease now a days....kids / young adults "graze" on sugar / carb industrial fast food all day long spiking insulin and resulting in metabolic disorder leading to auto-immune disease. I know sugar / carb grazers that also graze on cigarettes and graze on alcohol and all of them have profound health problems i.e. auto-immune disease(s) and the resulting cost to the Health Systems..cigarettes / tobacco do a hell of a job destroying the pancreas (NIH ref)...as well...if all the aforementioned were just impacting the people who "graze" all day long I wouldn't say a word about it...they are greatly impacting overall health care costs with their out and out recklessness.

Fast food is more of a chemistry project than a cooking one. They've mastered being able to take stuff we normally wouldn't eat such as yoga matt rubber and blown insulation and actually make it taste good. If a small mom and pop shop tried to do any of this they would be shut down immediately.

You really think TV news doesn't talk about the obesity epidemic?

All cooking is a chemistry project. Everything we eat is a chemical. Go be stupid somewhere else.

True, but he's referring to ultra-processed foods:

The data that is starting to come out of these long-term studies on our diet of processed foods is pretty scary:

“We found that men in the highest quintile of ultraprocessed food consumption, compared those in the lowest quintile, had a 29% higher risk of developing colorectal cancer,”

It's hard because it's convenient & addictive. Cooking is a pain & low-quality food generates low energy & low mood, which makes it hard to care enough to change. I like to cook & I STILL hit up McDonalds all the time. btw the PB Crunch McFlurry is 10/10 lol;

No, he isn't, he's regurgitating dumb shit that he read (because that's what he does), and was already covered in this thread.

I haven't eaten at Subway in years, and hope that I can continue to say that for years to come!

Subway & Wendy's are both on my banned list. I never feel very good after eating at either place. Only thing I'll get is a Frosty once in awhile...

I just think Subway's food is not very good, and wildly overpriced for a simple sandwich. I still like Wendy's overall, but the one nearest me doesn't turn out a good burger.

And a soy boy. You can't be a manly man eating soy. I know because gym bros told me so. 😉

But I'll tell you what makes you man

Anyone who has ever actually bit into a real piece of chicken and Subway chicken knew from the start that Subway chicken was not real chicken. Too spongy, even for dried overcooked chicken patties.

Its sort of like cooking a nice omlette made with eggs at home vs having one of those reconstituted dehydrated egg ones, you know something is off.

Subways were always kinda goofy because of all the fast foods out there, a subway sammich is one of the easiest to replicate at home with better ingredients for a similar price. Some stuff like Croissants or Fried Chicken I'll give that the homemade from scratch version is a huge pain in the ass but a sando? Come on!
