You have to take into account that your friend also had fries and a drink. Factor that in and I'm willing to bet that you did considerably better than him. Of course if you got chips and a drink as well it might be another story.

Something else that has to be mentioned is that even with the 6" subs you are eating more actual food than you are in a big mac, meaning you're likely to be fuller and eat less overall in the day because of it.

The reason why you might have felt bad is that you ate too much, which has that affect on you (you could eat the healthiest food in the world and if you eat too much of it you'll feel bad).

Nutrition is a lot more than just fat and calories.
In fact those arent nutrition providers at all. Nutrients provide nutrition.

In that light, the sub is better because of the processing. More vitamins and minerals are available at Subway. A small sub actually gives me energy for the day. True, its probably because of the starch that transfers into sugar almost immediately.
But almost everything from a burger joint wipes me out. I usually need a nap after a No. 2 value meal at McDonalds.

I went to Baja Fresh (it's a mexican fastfood style joint.) Having never been there, I thought it wouldn't be too bad. The salsa tasted very fresh and really good.

I got home and looked up the Baja Burrito

HORROR!

You're worried about eating healthy, yet you pick the fattiest, most processed meats Subway sells?

You have a lot to learn about nutrition.

Any of their chicken or turkey sandwiches would be far better. And many of their sauces are low/non-fat and better than mayo. Also, it's good to load up on all the veggies when you get a snadwich.

You guys also need to take in account..a 6" sub from subway is about as filling as a big mac would be, so comparing it to a footlong sandwich is apples and oranges..

too bad a footlong sub is over twice the size of a single big mac. it'd be naive to compare a bigmac to a footlong meaty ball sub.

Thought subway would be my answer, lol. I need to research a bit more. I aim to eat about 1200 cals per day.

I'll give you a quick lesson...

First of all, 1200 calories a day will likey put in a state of starvation. You'll be drowsy and consume less calories. Don't do it..

Good fats:
Omega 3 (walnuts, flax seeds, wild fish, free range/grass fed beef)
Omega 6 (olive oil)

Bad fats:
Trans fats (partially hydrogenated ______ oil, not even natural. Body uses it as normal fats but it doesn't perform. Fast food, junk food, various frozen foods)
Saturated fats (bacon, etc. This is what makes you have bad cholesterol, not dietary cholesterol).

Good carbs:
Fruits (NOT JUICE)
Vegetables
*WHOLE* grains

Bad carbs:
Anything white flour related
sugar
fruit juice
high fructose corn syrup (very bad. Sweeter than sugar, but inhibits your ability to sense "fullness". Keeps you eating, and it has high GI. You're a fat making machine when you eat this)

Good resource on knowing what foods are healthy and how they're healthy.

Something weird about that McDonalds info site:

For a plain jane hamburger-

(calories)(total fat)(sat. fat)(trans fat)(chol.)(sodium)(carbs)(diet. fiber)(protein)

Beef Patty

100 7 3 0.5 30 25 1 0 8

For the Big Mac (which has two of what I thought were the same patties)-

Beef Patty

190 14 6 1 55 55 1 0 16

Shouldn't the numbers for the beef patty just be simply doubled since there's two? I don't get why they arn't.

Dont eat 1200 only calories. Youll loose your muscles first, then youll loose your fat and then youll die... 1800 at least and eat healthy, do I need to mention exercising?

Probably rounding. For natural products there's not much point rounding to more than about 1.5 sig figures. So, 1 beef patty might be the 30/25 in the first one might *actually* be 28/27, which would round to 55/55

My favorite sandwich from subway is a footlong turkey on wheat with spinache, american cheese (wtf do none of the subways have swiss?), peppercinis (sp?), mustard and a light vinigrette dressing. Mmm, now I want subway.

So I wonder then why the other numbers aren't off because of rounding.

I think I should email them and get an "offical" answer.

How is a turkey or chicken sandwich with no mayo and lots of veggies bad for you?

I mean, yes, whole wheat would be better, but it's not the end of the world to eat non-whole wheat bread. We (the US) have been eating white bread since before the turn of the century... 100 years before the obesity epidemic started... so white bread isn't to blame for that.
