Are there any out there? And if not, does anybody think they will ever get this high of a resolution? Is there a technology barrier?
Hrmm.. then why are there 1600x1200 resolution screens in laptops (15 inch LCD screens)? Quite often too... 😕Originally posted by: corky-g
Probably not a technical barrier, but a market barrier - you have to be talking about native resolution - under 18 inches, text would be too small for most users. I have two 18 inchers @ 1280 x 1024, and that requires a 130% zoom factor to be readable for text. My laptop is 15.6, and is 1024 x 768 NR. The text on all three is about the same.

Around the time of the Windows "Longhorn" release, we should start to see a lot of new high-resolution LCDs. "Longhorn" will offer full 120+dpi support for every element on the desktop (every graphic, widget, font, icon, etc). That means you could use a 15" LCD at 1600x1200 resolution and still have everything on your desktop look as if it is running 1024x768 or 1152x864--except everything would be much sharper.

When I was installing some PCs at work, we had a 17" Fujitsu TFT, and I was able to push that up to 1600x1200, and it worked. Not sure of any model numbers, but I saw it myself, so it is possible 🙂

eh? Tell me more. I just remember reading an article over at overclockers.com (can't find it now...go figure) about the bandwidth of the DVI connection and how a newer connection is in the works.Originally posted by: nicowju
disagreement on that last statement... 🙂
I'm running a Samsung 240T @ 1920x1200 on a DVI connection. The driver takes advantage of the blanking refresh (or something like that) to transmit data on this interval which is used in CRT's but not on LCDs generally (IIRC).
But I've also been looking for 18"-19" LCDs with >= 1600x1200 resolution. Haven't found any yet though. Anyone know?

That's why many high-res LCDs have dual DVI connections - to essentially divide the load.

Yeah, why can Dell put a gorgeous 15" screen in a laptop that is 1600x1200 (I think UXGA), but we can't find any 18" LCDs on the market that will do 1600x1200? I've seen the Dell display on an Inspiron (8100 I think)..its pretty gorgeous
