That's not really a stupid question for folks who don't know about laptops. Those things recharge in the car just fine when the car is turned off.

depends on the car

my blackberry would discharge itself if i left it plugged into my monitor's USB port with the computer off, but my android stuff keeps charging. i guess the blackberry was trying to connect to something on the other end of the USB port.

Lets Reboot the server!!! sure, it always fixes the problem to RESTART a working server.

I've actually had this experience lately. We have a list of things to do before starting a ticket, with rebooting being on of the very first things.

Had an issue on a production server the other day and one of the employees overheard and asked "have you tried rebooting it?" Bless their heart :)

Sister in law just moved, set her up with a cheap used modem and an old WRT54G-TM for internet. Her friend came over (very part time roommate sort of thing) and tries getting on the internet, she had left her the wifi password. No dice. She then uses the SIL's laptop for awhile, then said the internet stopped working (???). SIL says when she got home the router was unplugged and the friend was like derrrrrrrr.

At least the SIL knew that was dumb...for the most part I can help people out okay.

But my wife's dad hasn't had a problem since I became infuriated with him constantly running Windows 7 in guest mode and complaining things didn't work. I told him Teamviewer for support in the admin account going forward or no help :D

I was an ET in the Navy and worked in the repair depot at Tektronix. MOST of what I heard was stupid.

America really needs to improve its science education, a lot. Theres a bunch of basic stuff about RF everyone should know but nobody does.

I've been using computers (PCs, minicomputers and mainframes) for 20 years, and I found iTunes to be a steaming pile of incomprehensible crap. So I am sympathetic to the OP's sister and would not put those questions anywhere near the dumbest ever.

This. itunes is not user friendly which is why I don't use Apple products.

I was at an Apple store's Genuis Bar (don't judge me!) to get a quote on replacing the keyboard/upper chassis I decided to spill a Dr Pepper onto, and heard the lady next to me asking the poor Apple employee why was the Illinois DMV hacking her laptop. And by hacking she meant emailing.

My grandmother was getting spam emails and couldn't understand them. She asked "Are they doggin' me?"

Hahaha that's a classic.

I heard funny stories at work of people from the 611 department calling in saying we need to reboot the DMS. The DMS is the phone switch for the entire region. We're not going to reboot it and knock over 100,000 people offline because two customers happen to have the same issue. o_O
