That is a bummer to see people who can't handle the large and more dangerous vehicles out on the road. It's why I am all in favor of a SUV/FS Truck license with much harder testing then the standard joke done by the current DMV

BTW this is from someone who has driven them all his life so it's not like I'm being Biased I would be taking that harder test too. (and I would pass it)

I believe the problem is that people who have SUVs think they can drive at whatever speed they want in any sorts of weather because they have 4 wheel drive.
Yep, everyone thinks about going but they forget about that big "Stopping" issue 😉

Little cars that think they can stop on a dime are just as bad.

No, they forget that nothing but chains drives and steers on ice.

I would have to agree. A weekend class at the dealship would probably work out well.

BDawg, you're at fault. Admit it. Eh, stuff happens, that's why theyre called accidents 🙂

Sorry, I still don't see myself being at fault. I think the worst that will happen is equal fault.

You almost sound like the guy that hit me :Q

Ahhhh... the generalizations. Let me guess... "most SUV drivers you've seen" fall under this problem right? Let me tell you most SUV drivers I see are women driving the speed limit or too slow. Does that make me right?

<-- SUV driver who'd also like to see a separate test.

BTW, I think everyone should go out there and play in the snow with their cars... empty parking lot... so they know EXACTLY how to handle their car in that type of weather. Seriously. I skid purposely so I know my stopping distance in any situation. Try it sometime. It's kinda like buying that home fire extinguisher and actually learning to use it before you really have to fight a fire.

60ft is no where near enough room in snow. Hell, i'll leave enough room for me to all but coast to a stop in snow storms.

The principal of being hit I agree it's just as bad, the effects... well trucks/SUV's hurt much more 😉

Now would you rather get hit by a 110lb computer geek (Civic) or a 300lb Linebacker (Truck/SUV) people need to be trained in these things

I would rather be in truck. But given a choice, I would rather be surrounded by good drivers.

Actually, that car held up quite well considering. I agree that trucks can cause more damage though. And I've been saying that we need better driver training ever since I got my license (admittedly only a little less than 5 years ago).

ZV

EDIT: And every car I've driven in the winter I've take to an empty parking lot to practice with.
