Nope. Ive been slowly upgrading mine throughout the past three years.

Good luck doing that with your mac without having a complete fucking nightmare.

I'm *almost* certain that most Mac users don't want to deal with opening a computer case, certainly not a laptop. You can't compare and judge one's value of time with yours.

On the contrary and not to sound like a hypocrite although it's a different point altogether, most Mac users that I know of are really poor and stupid and have never paid for their software and think it's legit to pirate software because they are poor. Very liberal minded.

There's also the fact that unless you use a Mac, you're not accepted by an industry where almost everyone else uses a Mac - namely the creative fields like fashion, a/v production and photography. But wait, before you say it, you should care what you use because the people that give you the big business DO care about what tools you use.

I think I'm just admiring Apple's business strategy and not so much their products.

Huh? It takes me 5 minutes at most to open my laptop, make necessary changes, and close it up. Even shorter with a desktop.

I don't think that statement was geared towards those with technical competence.

You guys realize that apple did not invent display port right? They simply decided to use it instead of hdmi.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort

DisplaPort is a competing format with hdmi. The future of desktop monitors is going to be either DisplayPort or HDMI. From what I've read, I really hope the industry follows apple and goes DisplayPort.

All they did was put a mini Displayport on there to save space and allow them to make a smaller profile notebook. It is a good decision.

Why would the industry follow Apple? HDMI is much easier to hook up for the common user, because basically ever newer TV has it, and newer monitors. Unless the DisplayPort starts showing up on TVs and non-Apple monitors, then it's doubtful that it will succeed.

Uh, turn off power, pull plug, unscrew thumbscrew, put part into the only possible fitting slot, and reverse.

It's a stupid one. Consumers are getting sick and tired of format wars. Only geeks go ga-ga over this crap.

I have worked tech support! I don't know shit about cars, but can change an air filter. Thats about how tough it is to add RAM.

Actually, from further reading via googling and the wiki article I linked, I've discovered that hdmi is not even a competitor in the computer monitor market. DisplayPort is the next generation monitor input. Apple was not the first to market either. As wiki indicates many dell monitors already support display port.

Apple was just first to market with a notebook that has a mini-displayport. I suspect within the next year or so you will see dell notebooks with displayport connectors.

Certain people can be pretty damn dense even if it looks like the most simplest task. I know some real pieces of work who still don't know how to fill up their car with gas (they rely completely on full service).

Camelhair brushes. They PWN horsehair brushes. People that use horsehair brushes are idiots that don't know what they're doing.

One thing I love about OS X is Exposé, and Windows doesn't really have the same thing. You can quickly show the desktop with Windows-D, but there's no way to view all the windows at the same time like the F9 function in Exposé. But Windows' alt-tab functionality is the same as OS X and that's all I generally used anyway, even when I was in OS X.

This exists in Vista. Don't remember the shortcuts or names here at school.

Win+Tab instead of Alt+Tab

That's something I actually love about compiz in Linux. Throw mouse into a specified corner of the screen, the open apps tile out. Select the one you want.

I think there's no doubt that compiz kills both Vista and OSX for desktop eye candy. Unfortunately it doesn't always play well with all applications, and either the app or window manager (worse) may die when errors come about.

there are programs for windows that will do that same thing, or at least there was for XP IDK about Vista never looked

sorry, but you need to realize that some 70% of consumers, maybe more, really lack the competence to open a computer case and remove a card, maybe shove another one in its place.

These forums represent an extremely small percentage of the consumer market when it comes to computers. Of course, many of these consumers still buy PC, and are perfectly happy with shuffling off to Geek Squad or wherever. Mac users are just as willing to have a "Genius" convince them they need a new system altogether, rather than simply pay for an overpriced upgrade.

I guess this is an issue of "hate the game, not the playa."

Yes, all of these things are "easy" to do. But the ave consumer, whether it be with their car or computer--2 essential tools of our modern life, are, for lack of a better word "nervous" when it comes to tinkering with these essential tools.

Conditioning to trust the experts has lead to a majority consumer class that believes they have too little time, or that these repairs are far too complicated for them to understand--the slightest error leading to irrecoverable failure.

Hence, Apple and the rest of the tech service industry thrives. Unless you're prepared to recondition the majority consumer, then don't expect them to care about how to do these things on their own.

Apple's hardware and software feels much more higher in quality than any PC and to get that, you pay the premium albeit SMALL. It's really a no brainer. They make amazing products and an experience that can only be poorly mimicked. They've been doing it for years and will continue to do it because that is what they do and that's why they sell like hot cakes.

I went with my sister to the Apple store this weekend and she bought the smaller Macbook, I forget it's size but it's great. It's so fast and so elegant. From the inspiring packaging to the first bootup experience, it's been *just* amazing. I just couldn't stop using it. The computer is full of surprises. (is it even a computer??!) At first I couldn't find the mouse button but *laugh* it was RIGHT THERE! hidden INSIDE the Apple track pad. The other cool thing was the hidden camera and built in wireless. It connected to my wireless without having to do *anything* - beat that Windows!

Anyway, Macs need and deserve the recognition they deserve and these advertisements are just the ticket.
So much wrong with this post I think I'll just point and laugh.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Apple has Logic, which Windows does not. If you produce music Logic is one of the premier apps. Final Cut is better than Adobe Premiere, and as of CS2, Premiere's still better on Mac's. I would go as far as to say the majority of the titles in Adobe CS are still better on Mac. Mac's are overpriced, but still reign supreme for A/V shit - PC's are catching up but still have a ways to go.

I'm poor but if I could afford a Mac to do my video and audio editing I would in a HEARTBEAT.

I use Final Cut Studio 2 everyday at work and prefer Avid Xpress Pro software on my PC than on the mac (works on both) and much over FCS2.
