Stupid IGNORANT FORUM SOFTWARE

so if you use a CENSORED word it wipes out your reply and doesn't post it.

Great. Who came up with this stupid idae.

Roll back the changes. Besides looking like **** (I don't dare use any word other than stars) it formats badly as well

And how is this different than what the system did prior to the upgrade?

Before if you made a post with a censored word, it would just star it out. Now you must fix it, as it will not automatically censor it.

Are you sure, I specifically remember posts in FI about people losig posts if they had a censored word (and in some cases those censored words weren't obvious....)? Was/is there two lists, some words * out and some words completely banned?

It's done both at one time or another.

stop using censored words?

Well if a word is filtered out as forbidden, it's best not to use it, or evade it. It's the best bet. Otherwise the mods will know it.

Thanks for the clarification, the OP makes much more sense now. I agree with his request (while perhaps not his stylistic approach to it). Could someone see if this is optional (rejection vs *). I agree losing an entire post can be aggrivatng especially when someone uses an baneed word by mistake (I know there has been some problems detecting words in words and such)...

trouble is you don't know what all those words are. Worse if your on P&N and the local mod (whose posting idea is known) doesn't like one of your posts he just adds whatever word he doesn't like to the list....

Look, the software should NOT delete the whole text, it should either **** it out or throw a warning with the offending word so you can act.

I guess we can just ***** and let people guess our intentions with a few well placed words or general tone.

It also tends to format bad, as in the message lists can be below the bottom of the screen unless you turn the side bar off. This happens in Explorer 6.05 (what we have at work)

Is this a theory or can you point to some examples of this? If true I would think that should require some discussion among the mods to determing if that all feel that is appropriate behaviour...

That's too much work, apop, the way it worked before was aesthetically acceptable compared to the present.

And censors like that get tripped for words you would not expect.

Thats the primary reason I believe it should work as the OP stated, I'm pretty clear on the 5-10 words that are obviously in the censor, but would hate to have a legitimate post caught by an unexpected one.

you do know what a *workaround* is?
--it what you do while they fix it ...

yeah ... "copying" takes time ... but it takes a LOT longer to retype the post 😛

Agree 100%, from your earlier post it sounded like you thought this was a reasonable permanent solution...

Yes, this used the be the way the forum previously worked, then was replaced by the automatic censoring version (****.)

With this latest update, the old "Oops, one of the 140 words you wrote (or was contained in a hyperlink) is on our list, so we'll just wipe out that whole post for ya. Thaaanks!" method is back.

My post stay after it says i have bad words. maybe its your browser??? Im using firefox lastest version.

Same here but I'm using the latest version of IE 7, as a test I "tried" cursing out Twista and the forum software told me that I had forbidden words but returned me to my original post. Either it's fixed now or the problem may lie on your end Shivetya 😕

At one time, "fsck" was a banned word, presumably because people in OT used it to avoid the filter for the properly spelled f-word.
This was also at one of those times when the forum would indeed just send the post into /dev/null if you had a banned word in it, so imagine my surprise when a(hopefully) rather helpful post to someone having problems with a *NIX box disappeared on me 😉

Guessing the mod who put that word in the list wasn't very familiar with *NIX 🙂

I asked for a specific example of a P&N mod adding a word to harass a poster he disagrees with, fsck isn't one of those examples.

Oups, misread the originally quoted post and got the impression it was more about relatively arbitrarily censored words 😱

This happened to me this morning and I have no idea what the forbidden word was. I rewrote the message several times and finally just gave up.

I had no "doubt" -- there was nothing even remotely objectionable in my message. I edited it multiple times and finally just gave up.
