So (as im sure you all know) i got a new A/C installed 2-3 weeks ago... I got a call monday that a city inspector needed to come out and inspect the new A/C unit... So we scheduele the appt for wednesday morning, but she also told me over the phone that their usually late so plan on waiting around for awhile, possibly into the afternoon...

Wednesday morning, i wake up at 9:30am to find a note on the door saying the inspector came and i wasnt home. We called them up and the guy said he knocked, and then walked around the back to see if he could see anyone inside. Now, the way our townhouse is situated, me and the other person living here have the 2 upstairs bedrooms, which is WAAAY to far away to hear anyone knock at the front door. Now they want $100 to come out again to inspect (has to be within the next week or we get a fine ontop of that). My question is, if have a perfectly good doorbell that works, which i would have DEFINATELY heard if he rang it (he admitted that he didnt even try), should i responsible for the $100??

DO what I do in situations like this. Call and scream at them until they do what you want. Better yet call the local newspaper or television station and let them know what's going on. Hell you usually don't even have to call the media types, just threaten to and it normally scares the shizt out of the offending party and they make things right.

That's what I was gonna say

I guess I just have the advantage of living next door to a former mayor of our city and the current mayor lives three houses down.

That sucks!

The local nbc station where I live has a 6 On Your Side segment - 6 is the channel #. On that segment they go after people/businesses that try to pull crap like that. They would put his a$$ on camera and ask if he knew what a doorbell was. HEHE.

Is it considered normal elsewhere to require an inspection for a household appliance? It sure isn't where I live...

Hey! Another Louisianian! I remember when Channel 6 first started 6 on your side. One of the first segments was about the crappy paint GM was putting on their trucks and how it didn't stand up to New Orleans' summers. My father ended up getting a new paintjob on his Suburban for free because of them! 🙂
