In one hell realm, the person has their intestines filled with blazing iron pellets.

In another Buddhist hell realm the person suddenly has their body marked with black lines. Then, they are cut piece by piece, and their body comes fully back together to be sliced up again.
There are similarities in the descriptions of punishments in Hell between the various religions. Either the religions are true and from one God OR the religious leaders been plagiarizing.

Or, hell was invented as a means to bring people into the fold. Fear is a great tactic.

What's the best way forward with nuclear in your opinion?
This isn't the thread for that level of detail, we've had some decent discussions on this before on the OT forums. It's pretty complicated, as the DOE and NRC have been very slow to respond to introduction of new types of plants in terms of additional funding (public/private partnerships) and approvals. I'd have to look it up, but two candidates, IIRC, have such approvals to scale up to demonstration plants, if they can raise enough money and find suitable sites. One new (aka Gen4) plant was approved by China, the the US government denied the building of the new plant because of some rule against transfer of technology (which was being held up at home by the US government as well). DUH!

Edit, freaking iPad autocorrect.

I studied Mahayana Buddhism on my way to a religion major. This sort of thing is pretty common in the Mahayana (greater vehicle). On the opposite end you have the pureland spinoffs. Good karma - go to higher realm where you won't even break a sweat on your search for an end to samsara (cycle of birth , death, rebirth). What's interesting though is that you don't have to consummate your enlightenment by floating off to nirvana. You can say, yo, hold up. and become a bodhisattva. It's not the ascetic style of buddhism which is much closer to what Buddha practiced. But what they lack in authenticity they make up for with batshit crazy imagination. Apologies for being disrespectful.

Yea. I don't want to derail this thread and start talking about religion, but I will just say that there are some very similar beliefs between the Abrahamic and Eastern faiths (Hinduism and Buddhism). With reincarnation, it is believed that what you are today (good or bad) is directly related to how you lived in a past life. So, if a Buddhist or Hindu sees a homeless person, they believe that they are paying for a past sin, and so this is why they are homeless. Or, maybe they have a mental illness or are in just a poor state. It's all related to your past life. That is why building merit, and universal karma are so important. You need to build a great life, so your next life will be a great life.

And if you are in no position to build a great life due to being a bad person in a previous life, does that mean you are stuck in an infinite loop of leading awful lives?

Yea. I follow the Buddhist and his teachings (kind of) but I reject the superstitutions that are found in Buddhism and Hindusim. Its the same with Christanity or Islam. Someone asked me if I was a Christian. I told him no, and that is because I don't believe in magic. A guy who could turn water into wine, and Muhammad who split the moon with his finger. That is magic, and so I reject these things. The same with karma and reincarnation.

BTW, the Buddha was walking on water and healing the sick 500 years before Jesus.

Not necessarily. Magic is evil knowledge that may require doing Satanic things to increase its potency. Those were miracles and only made possible because God enabled them to happen. The people to whom these miracles are attributed didn't actually have the power to do them at will. I think, Jesus said something like, "Become alive by the order of God" and the dead would become alive.

And, how do you know that Jesus actually engaged in these miracles? They are only found in the bible which would be confirmation bias, and you can't use the bible to prove the bible. That would be a circular fallacy. Its also quite telling that you would ignore the miracles found in other religions. The Buddha walked on water, healed the sick and the Prophet Muhammad rode a winged horse into heaven. Why? Because its in these ancient books, SO IT MUST BE TRUE! Whenever you bring up the bible to prove the magic or miracles that took place you've already lost. You are engaged in a number of fallacies, and so we wouldn't be able to futher this discussion.

Fallacies: Special pleading, Confirmation bias, Circular reasoning. I just counted 3 very easily. There might be more.

Take care my friend. I don't want to derail this thread with a long talk about religion.

I've actually experienced being IN severe weather that turned green a couple times... the worst was in a serious severe thunder-storm in Bridgeport CT on I-95 NB.

Traffic came to a full-stop because it was no-exaggeration like trying to drive through a waterfall! (even the 18-wheelers)

I got lucky and was onto the big overpass-area bridge over downtown when traffic ground to a halt so I didn't end up flooded out unlike the folks 1/4 mile or so behind me!
