So I'm heading to D.C. next week for the first time, and I'm pretty clueless on what to see. I'm going to hit all the major attractions: Arlington Nat'l Cemetary, all the monuments, Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, Korean War Memorial, WWII Memorial, the Air and Space Museum, the Holocaust Museum, etc. But I'm wondering if there's any out-of-the-way places you would recommend to see (that are within walking/Metro distance of the city center.
I'd *really* like to visit the National Cryptologic Museum in Fort George G. Meade, MD (adjacent to NSA headquarters) but there's no public transportation out there. I don't think I'm going to hit the Spy Museum since I've heard it's overrated and there's no original artifacts there (just replicas).
So, what would you recommend for a history nut who's going to DC for the first time?
Thanks!
