wow..i go there...grad school at night though so it's not the baltimore city campus, which is in a very bad part of town BTW

If you're talking about the med campus then yes, it is in a bad part of town, but the Homewood campus isn't in a bad area at all. It's still definitely part of Baltimore, but it's far from the true slum.

why is it dangerous to go walking about in a slum?

According to a fellow grad student that works in my lab who is an MD alum just like you, it's actually quite difficult. Two of my friends who did undergrad here with me say the same, and they're both at MIT now.

baltimore isn't exactly the safest city

I was near the JHU campus a few times and walked through the campus... I did not see one decent looking girl.

I am from wisconsin but took a travelling job to work at johns hopkins...and driving in the general area of that hospital was an eye opening experience.

I worked there for 6 months and I saw more drug deals and homeless people and heard more gun shots working nights that I can even count.

When I worked there for those 6 months 5 police officers were killed in the line of duty...and in the month of Feb. there were almost 1,000 drug related arrests in that area.

The hospital itself had its own police force and gated community.

It was a riot...and that doesn't even include the rail system that they had....I rode that once to work....once

They released some more details yesterday. Apparently the death was due to asphyxiation. There were signs of a struggle and possible sexual assauly. The pilot light on the stove was also out, suggesting that the murderer was hoping to cover up the scene with an explosion.

Pay your tuition... or else.

this is why serious posts should not be made in OT

People die. Get over it.

Doesn't make it any easier on the kids friends/family. Especially when they are taken so suddenly from you. You obvioously have not experienced. So learn some friggin sensitivity. If you don't feel the same way as other people that this someone got murdered, fine, no one is forcing you to hit that reply button.

idunno what major you are/were in, but BME is pretty hardcore stuff.

anyways, homewood (main campus) isnt that bad. the immediate area to the east, south, and west are not bad at all. there is a "buffer zone." the north is one of the nicer parts of baltimore actually.

on-campus memorial service is weds. classes from 10-12 in the morning are suspended on that day.
