GOP getting ready to press the self destruct button.
Yeah for fairness!
GOP getting ready to press the self destruct button.
Republican governors tell Biden to shove it. I think Biden should listen and not offer the forgiveness to anyone in those 20 states. Of course as soon as they move to a non-backasswards state they would get it. Let the brain drain continue.

Almost half of U.S. governors ask Joe Biden to cut student loan forgiveness plan
In a letter to Biden, Republican governors say they support "making higher education more affordable" but don't want to "force American taxpayers to pay off the student loan debt of an elite few."www.npr.org
Republicans: This is unfair. We support making *x policy issue* better/cheaper instead.
Democrats: Ok, let's do that.
Republicans: Well hey now hold on there we didn't mean actually do anything that might make a difference. We're just showing support.
As far as I can tell it's that they realize their actual policy of 'we prefer to do nothing' is hideously unpopular so you can mitigate that by signing on to some nebulous idea of future improvement like they did with health care.
While my family will directly benefits from this plan, I do question a solution that will lead us to having the same or worse problem in 10 more years...Even I agree that Biden's plan is stupid and fixes nothing. There are better answers out there, but I doubt the GOP would sign off on any of them.
Wife won the lotto, I on the other hand got "Besty Devos'd" right before the COVID hit. for 1700 for an orientation class no less.12M applications in with minimal hiccups is fairly impressive. Biden and Co clearly remember the healthcare.gov debacle.

It sure does something for those people getting $10k.Dolling out $10K to people already in debt and doing NOTHING to stem the flow of people going into debt does nothing.
People who complain about this not being a permanent solution should ask Republicans what their plans are to lower education costs.

Fix what you can, for the people you can, when you can.
I too would prefer a real solution and not a bandaid, but when a bandaid is all you have, that is what you use.
I think everyone is, even Conservatives. They just can't figure out how to make sure theBut I am MORE FOR actual structural and meaningful change to higher education.
I think everyone is, even Conservatives. They just can't figure out how to make sure thewhite,err...I mean right, people get the benefits. Their ideology makes it better for everyone to suffer then to risk giving something to someone that might not deserve it.
The easy answer to lowering education cost is to stop dumping billions of dollars into the system.People who complain about this not being a permanent solution should ask Republicans what their plans are to lower education costs.

There are more refined approaches to controlling the student debt issue. A simple one would be honest councilors that give potential students real advice and actually help them invest in their future wisely.
There are more draconian methods that would help. Select the 10 or 15 degrees with the least earning potential and require secured loans for them. The problem is solvable.
There is a conservatives answer to the problem! A soundbite that sounds like it would work, as long as you don't think about it for more than a few seconds! The easy answer to lowering education cost is to stop dumping billions of dollars into the system.
What advise do you think councilors are giving? And how does this jive with the standard answer that all conservatives give when asked how to help the poor, get a higher education?A simple one would be honest councilors that give potential students real advice and actually help them invest in their future wisely.
So, you must declare your major before you start university? What if you change it mid-term? What if you get more then one degree, or are we limiting degrees to one per person? There are more draconian methods that would help. Select the 10 or 15 degrees with the least earning potential and require secured loans for them. The problem is solvable.
Young people better fk'ing vote because this would have never happened under GQP president.
