Student denied Diploma because he blew kiss and took bow

Its a ceremony FOR THE STUDENTS.
If they wanted to throw a beach ball (oooooo!!!) then fucking let them. Even if you don't agree with that, it doesn't matter because blowing a kiss is an absolutely ridiculous thing to be punished for.

Some people really need to take the stick out of their asses and live a little. OMG RULES!! think of the parents!!!!! Beach balls!!! DUCK!!!!
Why even have a graduation for the students if they have to follow strict guidelines set up by parents and administrators that have nothing to do with the graduation.

Are some adults assholes and sticklers because they've led sad and lonely lives? I'm 22 and my dad is 60 and neither of us will never be like that.

What's much more likely is graduation ceremonies have been getting more unruly and the superintendent was just trying to say "we're not going to have this anymore". Seriously, tossing around beach balls? It's not a concert, it's a ceremony. So by being really harsh and saying no more showboating, etc and following through on it next year it won't be so bad and people will behave.

We threw beachballs around a bit too and I think someone had a blow-up shark. At one point someone got up on stage and told us to knock it off (we didn't). Nothing else was said. I think it's funny that school administrators get so much sand in their vaginas over such minor, inconsequential bullshit. They're just afraid at the prospect of losing their power over people.

That is not minor inconsequential bullshit. It is HIGHLY disrespectful to other students and guests to act like a fool at a CEREMONY.

Next I'll show up at your wedding or promotion or award ceremony and run around naked tossing an inflatable shark.

It's very obvious since there were plenty of others who received the same outcome that people were not acting properly and discipline or consequences to their tomfoolery needed to be doled out.

Oh noes, the sanctity of graduation 😛 Pretty soon we'll have no applause until the end of graduation rules strictly enforced - you clap while your kid is up and he doesn't get to have his diploma.

Being mindful of tradition and having respect for authority doesn't equate sad and lonely. Being a self-rightous selfish bastard says something else, though.

You're a dickscarf.

lolz, sorry man; you had 4 years or more to do your partying. It's funny how losers like this guy missed out and then want to try to be the cool college dude on the last plane out.

Again, it's audience. Some graduations are full of this. When it's only one idiot though it's a problem.

Well, they didn't punish anyone, and no one complained except for a few butthurt school administrators. So clearly it WAS pretty minor.

But beyond that, the subject at hand is a kid who bowed and blew a kiss. Very, very far from what you're calling "disrespectful" or "tomfoolery."

No, proper analogy would be bride and groom showing naked with an inflatable shark. The ceremony is for the bride and groom, they can do whatever they want.

Same with this. The ceremony is for kids and their parents. Sure, some things would definitely be inappropriate, however blowing a kiss and bowing is not.

Amazing how much you learned about this kid in the last two hours! Already you know that he missed out on the fun in high school and that his actions were an attempt at making up for it, in order to emulate college students! How'd you figure it out, did you go interview him yourself?

I just can't believe something like this is considered such a big deal. It's not disruptive at all. If you think it is then you need to dig that stick out of your ass.

Your analogy is flawed.

A better one would be: the bride and groom book their wedding at a church. The pastor states that under NO conditions will he allow people to be naked and carrying inflatable sharks in his church but the bride and groom show up like that anway, the pastor refused to lead the ceremony and shuts the door on them then they go cry on the internet about it.

Your analogy is also flawed. And besides, you're barking up the wrong tree. My graduation experience was one matter, but let's talk about the subject at hand.

It would be like there is a wedding, and while the bride is walking up to the altar, she waves to a friend or family member and blows a kiss. The pastor storms out because the bride was supposed to be looking straight ahead and walking instead of engaging in "funny business."

More like the groom shows up with one shoe and a Finding Nemo pin.

Errr, I was adjusting the shark/naked analogy.

The main flaw with the new analogy is that the school dictates the terms of graduation, not the students. The students are the recipients, not the givers. In a wedding, the bride and groom choose their venue and pick their pastor/reiki master/voodoo technician/lesbian reflexologist minister thus they can have it howevr their want. Students, however, still must accept the terms that the school dictates for the graduation ceremony.

Forget the analogy, it's all about this behavior is disrespectful to other students, the faculty and all attendees/parents. With punishment you can make sure it won't happen again and this disrespectful behavior will not continue.

Just two weeks ago at my graduation, I took a bow, show boated a little bit, and everyone just laughed, and the superintendent just shook his head with a big grin on his face as he handed me my diploma.

Maybe. Or maybe it'll make future students realize that the superintendent is an asshole and coordinate their efforts to piss her off more.

Yep, you don't do that at graduation. He also wore something under his gown and pulled it out.

I was going to say I can't believe you'd actually side with the superintendent after watching that video and seeing how minor it was, but then I remembered that all you care about in life is following rules (more specifically, dictating rules for others to follow). Not surprising, just sad.
