Hey guys, it's been awhile since I posted here but I had a question.
I am a female interested in starting stronglifts. My husband has been doing it for a few weeks and is loving the results.
I was curious if any girl out there has done so with success (long shot I know) or if any boys can give me some good advice based on their experience.

a little background about me:
28 years old
5'1
175 lb
not much experience lifting weights, but have played sports for about 3 years regularly
currently can deadlift 50lbs
squat 90lbs
bench press 50lbs

Thanks in advance.

Stronglifts isn't limited to gender, anyone can do it. Just about any lift can be done by women. I guess they typically just don't do them because they think it'll make them bulky which it really won't... that or they're just intimidated by the movements. I'll say one thing though, it's quite a turn on when I see women do squats and bench presses... it's quite a rare sight at my gym. 😛

edit: I should also mention... safety first. Learn to do them properly with good form first, you can easily get injured if you're not doing them correctly. I suppose you can workout with your husband and he can spot you.

thanks for the advice on safety. I actually had to reduce the amount of weight I started with because I didn't have proper form. I hope to get up to lifting 1.5 times my body weight which I believe is the ultimate goal in stronglifts.
🙂

The ultimate goal would probably be lifelong fitness.

For the most part, men and women should train the same way for the same goals. Mehdi wrote an article about it and you can find lots more if you google "starting strength women" and "stronglifts women".

I have read that article and also searched the internet. I am waiting to join the stronglifts community (there is a waiting list).
In the meantime, I was just looking for some information on anyone who has had personal experience with the program.

what information is there? u just do what it says.. I do 5x5 every other day between the two work outs.. one day bench squat row rest one day (i do cardio and ab ripper) then next work out is overhead press squat and dead lift. This is the right ones ya?

I actually do 10 pounds add each time because i dont have 2.5 pound weights to add to each side.. im actually to the point where i need more weights cuz the whole bar is filled *but i only have 5-15 pound weights right now. Seems to be working fine. Only been doing it about 1.5 months i guess and def feel like i can lift way more

Id love to have a longer work out but seems like its effective and takes about 30 mins

Don't bother waiting to join the community. Start the program with an empty bar and go to town. There is more than enough information on the site. If you're looking for more, read Starting Strength or visit the Starting Strength Wiki. Stronglifts was/is based on this book.
