Hey guys. I'm new here and have joined to ask about this problem I have with Street Fighter IV.... It worries me somewhat from what I have read in this forum and on game websites...
Basically, I live in the UK and decided to pre-order Street Fighter IV for the PC ( :D ).
This is my problem:
http://www.shopto.net/page.php?page=search_results&pg=1
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Capcom...&qid=1234461450&sr=8-5

Ok... Both these websites list Street Fighter IV for the PC (THE PC!!) as being released at the same time as the 360 and PS3 versions... The strange thing is that the PC versions have different art work and every other site lists the PC version as being released AFTER the console versions.

So now you see my problem... I have pre-ordered it. Am I going to REALLY be getting the PC version of Street Fighter IV or some other weird version? Or am I going to be told last minute that it isn't actually coming out till June.

I would very much appreciate a fast reply, because I will happily cancel my pre-order right now, cause something smells fishy...

Delaying the PC version is going to cost them in lost PC sales. They are getting publicity and spending their advertising budget now on the game. By the time it comes out for the PC most will have forgotten about it by then.

So how is this going to work? I've never played fighting games on PC...

Can I hook up 2 usb XBox controllers to my PC and convince my GF to duel it out with me? It would be kind of a waste of time if you can't play with another person.

Arcade sticks being made for PS3/360 are USB and work on PC. Older sticks can be attached to USB converters. PS3 controllers work on the PC. Wireless transmitters are available for wireless xbox360 controllers.

You can also play the game online...

Sure, the joysticks might work... I'm wondering whether I can play 2 player matches on my computer. Is there a mode for that? It doesn't seem like PC titles ever consider two people playing a match on PC at the same time (like you would on a console).

So they've delayed the PC version allegedly due to piratephobia. Yet the 360 version is being massively pirated all over the internet, and it's not even on store shelves yet.

So basically the PC version of SFIV that I have ordered will NOT be released in February even though that's what the site says? That sucks... It will suck even more if I get sent the wrong version of SFIV too...
Thanks for the reply BladeVenom :p

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in this... especially on what Lumberg said about the netcode. First off I am very excited also about this game, its been quite sometime since the last sequel that another SF game came out, I think almost a decade. So this is a breath of fresh air. Especially for SF veterans.

how do these fighting games work online? i mean how does it combat latency and precisely deal out hits?

Some groups have written Net code that is basically freaking amazing...while others.............could learn from the former

About the netcode. I'm not sure how many people know about this in these boards. But this news is about several years old. As most people might know the fighting game genre has been practically HORRIBLE for playing online for quite sometime. The online exp for the fighting game genre was never up to par to other genres, especially FPS or basically ANY genre lol. The input delay (or button delays) in many fighting games has been one of the main problems for fighters. Imagine playing a fighter only to find out everything you do, even a basic punch or kick is delayed by a half a second or by several frames per second. Its something that FG players has always had to put up with.

So I'm guessing one person got fedup with this and finally did something about it lol. A person by the name of Ponder did whats called GGPO (good game peace out). Its right now the best netcode for fighting games. The lag is almost non-existent and best of all, input delay has been totally scratched off!!!! Its that amazing! Even better the netcode is so good players from across the world can play with each other with almost NO LAG whatsoever. Youtube is filled with japanese players playing against people here in the states with almost perfect connections. The netcode is so good Capcom has actually licensed the code to use for future capcom titles! So the multilayer exp for FG genre has finally gotten better!

An example of the fantastic code at work is HD Remix for the 360/PS3. From what I know the person that did the GGPO code worked with capcom to get HD Remix RIGHT for online play. I'm not entirely sure if the entire netcode for hd remix is based off of ggpo. But I do know that some of the work is based off from the same person. A lot more information about this game and Ponder can be found on google. HD Remix is the first fighting game that I have ever played in the FG genre with NO LAG whatsoever. Obviously both players has to have a decent connection for the exp to be flawless. But for the most part its been a great exp.

There is a lot more I want to say but my fingers are getting tired. LOL... But this is pretty much whats been going on based off from what I know. Some of the things that I said might be wrong. So I apologize in advance for this. For people that want to find out more just google it and you'll easily find it.

This makes no sense to me. The people who want to play online will have to buy it anyway. The people who want to play head to head on the same machine will buy the console version. Who wants to play a 2 player game hunched over the same PC? And I doubt they'll lose many sales from people who just want to play the CPU.

SFIV doesn't use GGPO. Apparently GGPO is CPU intensive, and while that's not a big deal for HD Remix (since it's super old), it is for SF IV. Early reports are saying that SF IV's online play (console of course) is just as good or almost as good as HD remix.

Might work? I have one. It works on the PC.

I don't have any information on it, but why is it odd for a 2-player match to happen on the same computer? Emulators can do it. Why wouldn't this?

The console guys get their games today (or tomorrow). I really hope that online play is possible (and subscription free). Would also be great to play against the console guys with the PC version.

Yep, unlike FPS games, I don't think any platform would have an advantage so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't allow this. Unfortunately if it were the case we probably would've heard this by now.

Why not? Pretty much any online game that's out on both PC and 360 is like that. I don't see why allowing them to play each other makes it any different.

Yep, unlike FPS games, I don't think any platform would have an advantage

I think overall the PC crowd would be fairly ruthlessly throttled, for a lot of the same reasons the PC crowd butchers the console crowd in shooters(it's not just control mechanics, console gamers simply play fighters a staggering amount more- also fixed hardware is huge- hardcore SF players time there moves to the individual frames of movement which is easy if the game is at a locked framerate). Highly doubtful that cross platform play will be available, PS3 users can't play against 360 users and that would easier to implement then PC to console(even the 360).
