Stranger ask you what you do for living

if a Stranger ask you what you do for living, what would you react? would you be scared?

not long ago i was getting gas. this guy with slacks and bussiness jacket look at me when i was going to my car. eye contact so i gotta say something.... i say hey hows it going. i was gonna make it quick as i get on my car but he walk straight at me with his arm reaching for a hand shake. hes like 2 inch away from my face and asking me "what you do man" i was like uhhh dont know what to say. then i just say "going to some store" then he says no, what you do for living. then i just uhh.... i just got fired from my job. then he mumbling something i cant really hear as i start wants to brush him off like putting myself in the car seat because i start to get scared... so after he mumbling or asking about something i just yeah yeah uh huh like go along..... after that he says YEAH THATS RIGHT BE BACKING not sure what he say.

did he just ask that i do crack? and i was like uh huh mumbling yeah uh yeah... thats why he sounded suddenly loud?

so yeah after that... i am very nervious and dont know whats going on. i just say alright man see you around and shut the car door then he walks away.

i never do crack. i didnt take shower just woke up put pants and shirt and straight out of the house.... my eyes looks sleepy. is that why he may think i do crack?


im still kindda scared of that situation. i dont know who he is or what he gonna do back there..... theres not many people at the gas station too so i was kindda scared that he might pull something creepy. how scared i was i act like his friend and went along like chatting with him.

but im still regret though when he says something and i didnt hear him clearly..... then i just uh huh yeah yeah.... he might ask i do crack and i did not know.

if you were in my shoes what would you do?

slacks and bussiness jacket..... he might be a dealer or something? or a pimp finding a customer to do his bitches? no idea but sure is strange. im afraid of every strangers now.
 
i usually take a shower every morning but just that day i felt that i was gonna get some quick gas and make some quick errands then come back.

dammm maybe the no shower.

i think he say something with crack or back but the way he acts like he asking something bout crack.

i didnt want to tell him my personal info like work.. i just say i just got fired from my job.

it was weekend morning around 7

im just afraid he might tell me to give him money. he being a dealer or whatever is not my concern. but man that situation sure got me nervious.
 
When people do something like that to me, I usually answer the question with the same exact question and a "fuck you" expression.

definitely not the norm in Europe.

Also no ones gives handshakes to someone they don't know here.

I would avoid revealing my job to someone who tries to know about it that way, they may be burglars/robbers/scammers scoping people out.
 
I really don't see the big deal, I wouldn't feel threatened at a gas station. If they end up asking you for money all you do is say no. People are so unsociable now a days...

yeah thats what i did. head nod and i was expected to be all just that and take off but he continue to look at me while walking toward me so i had to say something as being friendly. you know it reduce danger. like psychology stuff. if stranger walk toward you and is unpredictable..... you act friendly to reduce danger.

i didnt mention that i head nod before.




yeah it was a black guy. i didnt mention what race he is as someone might say its racist but seeing this thread mention race http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2316123 so yeah i mention race too.

he didnt look professional so i wouldnt think he is a professional salesperson. he look like normal person.

i know how women feel now. stranger can scare both sex and anyone not just women.




if being in a party and stranger come up what i do for living yes i would tell. but this is a stranger on the street in a gas station..... totally different.

I've been approached a few times while shopping. They introduce themselves and then talk casually then ask what I do. Turns out they just wanted me to join Amway/Quixtar/[insert pyramid scheme here].
 
Huh, worst thing that happens to me when I make eye contact with someone at a gas station, that person offers to fix the chips in my windshield.

If your spoken English is as poor as your written English, it's difficult for us to guess what the guy said or wanted.

HOWEVER...when I was working, unless the person doing the asking looked like they were in the trades, I either ignored them...or just told them to fuck off.
Nowadays, IF I felt like answering, I'd just say, "I'm retired."
About the only conversation you get from me at a gas station is "Hi, how ya doing?"
