Strange network problem

I'm setting up a network between two computer for file exchange using the NetBeui protocol. It's something I've done lots of before,
but I am having a problem with this one computer.

First, when the two computers are started and running, only one computer has a workling network neighborhood that lists both computers
and all the appropriate shared drives. It can access the other computer fine. However, on the other computer, nothing appears in network
neighborhood, and when I try to manually map a drive on the other computer it gives an error saying "Not logged on".

On this 'broken' computer, I've discovered that if you logoff, and then login (even without any password) the other computer will show up
in network neighborhood. I have the primary logon for both computers set to "Windows Logon"

Does anyone know a way to eliminate this This is a problem that I can't find a solution to on my own, and it really has me stumped.

Thanks

I've heard of this problem before. If you have your computer to auto-login, you might not be able to connect to the network. However, if you have the login prompt when you start Windows, you will be able to network. You don't even have to set a password, just click OK. But I don't know the reason why, or a workaround for it. Sorry! 😛 Hope this helps.

Had the same problem setting up a friends PC's for file and printer sharing using NetBeui. Removed and reinstalled all the networking protocols on the box that complained "Not logged on" and it now works like a charm. I also seen this happed on a PC that using using a cheap Faralon NIC (10 mip card) wouldn't connect using NetBeui but would using TCP/IP, a cheap 10/100 NIC fixed that problem.
