Are there any points for this violations?
Will your insurance go up because of this?

if you answered no to any of these questions... pay the ticket. it is easier and less hassle.

if the answer to any of these is YES... you can try to fight it, but bottom line is that without pictures or witnesses, it is your word against the cop and the judge will ususally side with the cop, so you will have wasted a day in court and have to pay anyway.

He is listed as in California. A stop violation is a moving offense and worth a point. However CA allows you to negate a single point if you have not had a point in the last 18 months by paying the ticket (admitting fault) and taking traffic school.

Usually the option of traffic school is revoked if you do fight the ticket. In most cases where there is a traffic violation where the violator can go to traffic school, the most prudent thing to do is to pay the ticket and spend some mind-numbing time in traffic school so your insurance rates don't go up.

There is also a chance if you delay the court date, the cop won't show up and your case is thrown out.

I heard that you could delay the court date up to 3 times. Is it true?

Not sure about 3 times, but in the meantime, write down everything you remember about the situation.
weather conditions
traffic
which lane you were in
etc.

you'll need this info if you do decide to fight it. But then again, you didn't see where the cop was, so your case is kinda bleak.

But if he does show up? Your insurance goes up for 3 years and your next point really starts to hurt your pocketbook. It's a gamble, but I think it makes sense to do traffic school if you can.

California really is the land of the idiot drivers. :)

For what it's worth, I'm from California.
