Stop forum racism, discrimination, whatever you want to call it

Hi,

I think that of late some of the posts round here have been racist towards some countries/members of other countries (France and Germany spring to mind). I would like to know if people agree that arguements should be kept civil and that this kind of "bashing" should stop. It doesn't prove anybody's point.

I would also be interested to hear the opinions (I have had to edit here to say "opinions" not "insults") of any one (French or German in particular) about how they feel towards these forums, and if that has changed of late.

Thanks,

Andy

I agree! I am sickened by many of the comments that I read here. This includes jokes that are racist. It's not cool.

The inital response to this isn't exactly filling me with pride. Maybe I picked the wrong time to post?

Saying that, everytime an inflammatory post appears with a countries title in it - it usually does pretty good.

neways...yeah, some people here are very ignorant, but, once they are noted by other forum members about what they really said, most are pretty cool about it and apologize...(remember those group of "oriental" threads awhile back..yeah..)

Words have meanings. There are three races and all are represented in the US, Germany and France.

Man, some of your posts are sheer ignorance. One country CANNOT be 'racist' against another! Only individuals can have that trait and then against those of a different race, not from a different country! I guess you never root for a sporte team since you consider that as racist.

My family is from Germany. SCREW the damn Germans and French!

You are the sort of person who I'm highlighting. Thank you for your contribution.

If I root for a sports team, that doesn't mean I shout obscenities at the opposition. I can also make a point without being insulting.
If you take issue with the technicalities of a person posting a comment/whole thread that is racist towards another country - then let me change my meaning to make it absoultely idiot proof for you. "Making insulting/racist comments towards a whole country - as if they applied to everyone in that country". I believe that targetting insults towards members of other countries - as opposed to "races" is commonly referred to as "racism". I'm at a loss to think what else to call it?

P.S. Germans and French are not races. You can call it discrimination, but it sure as hell is not racism. And most French are even worse than Republicans, even the few social French people that exist agree on that.

Fine, call it discrimination, or whatever you like. The point is it shouldn't be happening, and its deeply insulting. I can't believe people are not agreeing that there have been so many "bashing" threads around here lately and so many insulting, idiotic responses.

People have to vent their anger somehow.

Not here they don't. And not by insulting others. I'm angry about the US stance at the moment - but that hasn't sent me into a US bashing insult frenzy.

Andy

hell i just think its funny nothing serious guys

Most of the responses I read are not humourous, nor were they intended to be. I'm not saying it doesn't happen - but most things I've read here mean the things they say.

I've never shouted obscenties at the opposition. You make very few points that do not end up getting destroyed by reasoning and facts and like a Liberal, still spout the same ole line. Liberals think that if you repeat something enough times it becomes fact.

Besides, the French and Germans started the foray. The US will end it. We have our priorties, and they have theirs. Theirs have been demonstrated time after time to be more self serving than ours. They started the name calling and pointing. Go over there and repeat your blatherings.....see where THAT gets you!

Why are your posts so insulting? Did I pick your name out and accuse you personally of anything? My remark about obscenities was to discredit your "cheering for a team arguement" - not a personal attack on your behaviour! I would love to hear the "reasoning" and "facts" - I would (maybe I'm wrong about somethings). But there's no need to throw in the insults with them.

This thread is about the way people are argueing their points (or rather not - read insulting people) and not about current politics.

It all comes from being put down as a child for being yourself and then assuming an artificial identity in the form of an identification with something that is communially worshiped, a team, a nation, a race. a religion, anything really that gets respect so that you can get a feeling that you also deserve respect vicariously. Then when the unthinkable happens, somebody says the thing you identified with to get respect itself gets called worthless, you loose your mind and attack back, just like Tominator just did. He thinks the Germans and French gored his precious cow, so he retaliates. It's all very typical of people who have operated in the dark all their lives. Exposed to the light of day, however, it's pretty obvious that we ar all a huge bunch of fools who will commit mass suicide rather than go back and undo the damage done to our real selves as children. We would rather kill the world than do that. We are probably going to go extinct as a result.

I *think* I see where you're coming from. But making assumptions about people (especially such negative ones) is sure only to serve as more insult. I think this will all end up as flame bait. Reason: People want to insult others around here. They don't care about whether they are right or wrong - they just want to pick a fight or vent their spleen. That's so SAD!

Andy

Show me where I've taken part in German or French bashing unless it revolves specifically arounf those countries refusal to accept facts and their obvious but not admitted to hypocritical attitudes.

Stick it Moon Boy...

Can we all keep this civil? It would be just my luck to have a flame war start in a thread about presenting a proper arguement and not insulting everyone.

Moonbeam insults my views all the time. I'm used to it.🙂

What do you propose for the US's "obvious but not admitted to hypocritical attitudes"?

I've got 400 miles to drive and 4 to 6 inches of snow predicted or I'd be happy to continue....have a great day! Oh, the war has started.....🙂

The problem is with the obvious and not admitted to hypocritical attitudes. What that usually amounts to is they gored my ox, besmirched my substitute identy. What living in the dark means is not seeing THIS OBVIOUS FACT, which I know isn't obvious till you're willing to see it. By the way, we are both not very happy with moral relativism if I recall.

Edit: Dont forget that truth that hurts isn't necessarily an insult it's just a truth that hurts because of the pain it took to inflict the belief in the lie. There's just no getting around the fact that a lot of growth comes as a result of facing unpleasant realities. Unlearning means letting go of the charished illusion.

I'm a proud inhabitant of Belgium -- a country belonging to the "Axis of Weasels" 😀

the mods should rename the OT Forum

a more appropriate name would be the Flagwaving-Bush-Lovers-Forum

btw: there are not a lot of Europeans here (a couple of germans, scandinivians, Brits--no french if I recall)

There is a definite slant to the right in this forum - but there are still others who contribute to an even debate.
I worry less about right-wing viewpoints (you're entitled to them) and more about the way some present "arguements" with insults and sarcasm - especially on the serious issues!
