Andy

firstly, you threw out the racist card where it's clearly not an issue and henceforth set the tone in your first sentence and everything after that was pretty much discredited, lastly you contradicted yourself in saying your demanding nothing, I and i'm sure many others read between your lines
I demanded nothing. I wanted to know why its ok for people to insult others, when if you want to make a point - its better to do so with a coherent arguement.

and see your demanding people to alter thier behaviour and that never gets anyone anywhere but anonymosity to the author...

Who are you Brits anyway? You Euro types come in here and tell us how to behave. Civility! Really
rolleye.gif
We Americans are morally superior to EVERYONE else. We do not need to try to discuss things in a polite manner here. We can go anywhere in the world and do whatever we like. Everyone needs to fear us which is our due. You have a fine PM who knows his place, and you expect him to represent YOUR people? How dare you! He knows the way the wind blows and the wind blows wherever the Bush administration wishes. Weak minded fools. You follow the dictates of your beliefs and have the audacity to challange our New Manifest Destiny?!?!? You should get out your bible and get with the program. Read Romans 12:20 and 21 you ignorant fool and learn how to crush the world.

I've come to expect obstructionist crap from China & Russia, but our "European allies" should be ashamed. You're obviously not supportive of military involvement in Iraq, woo hoo... Because it offends you, evidently I'm not allowed to voice my opinion? The EU can't even agree on what symbols to put on the Euro without a 5 year long freaking discussion, name calling & back-stabbing. Bite me & guess what? We're probably going to kick some Iraqi ass whether France or Germany likes it or not. Oh BTW, I believe this board is operated in the US & it's private property, I respectfully suggest you boycot this forum & not buy anymore products from it's parent company, I believe Tom's Hardware "Other" Forum may meet your immediate needs. (watch out for Tom's silk PJ's & veiled homoerotic innuendos). Have a good day sir, (lunatic hugs his guns, wraps himself in a right wing flag waits to be banned)😀 BTW, ever since my ex wife moved to Cheltenham & started dodging paying child support, the UK is on my list too...
Well, that explains a lot! I wondered why Anand never posted to these boards, and it turns out he did, and he was just calling himself Pliablemoose! Well, since this is your privately owned board, then you can tell people to do what you like... And let me remind you that the US is supposed to be the "land of the free" based on tenets of equality and free speech. Not an authoritarian dictatorship where you can agree with Pliablemoose or be deported.
Not my board by a long shot, but I suspect that it's moderated the way Anand intends.

Well, i'll have no doubt annoyed Fencer, but Pliablemoose, I was actually employing sarcasm.
Let me put my point a bit more bluntly. You choose to read and post on these, someone else's, forums, as do Fencer and I. Fencer posts asking people to be reasonable, polite, and to debate without descending to mindless invective. And then... you told him to leave the forums. Now, not only is that not up to you, but it is a ridiculously narrow minded and childish thing to say. Hey - its bad enough sulking and asking for your ball back, but Pliablemoose, Its not your ball.

And I'm sure that these forums are moderated the way Anand intends - I think that the mods do a good job (although how they manage to wade through all the nefs I'll never know 😉 ) but since they haven't commented on this debate, what does that have to do with anything?

I'd like to be deported to New Zealand..they have sheep....

I remember a while back that someone was banned (or given a vacation) for using the term 'jap'. That was the last time, that I'm aware of, where someone was punished for using either racist or descriminatory remarks. One or two of the remarks in my signature, IMO, are reason enough to bid the authors adieu.

Hi,

I think that of late some of the posts round here have been racist towards some countries/members of other countries (France and Germany spring to mind). I would like to know if people agree that arguements should be kept civil and that this kind of "bashing" should stop. It doesn't prove anybody's point.

I would also be interested to hear the opinions (I have had to edit here to say "opinions" not "insults") of any one (French or German in particular) about how they feel towards these forums, and if that has changed of late.

Thanks,

Andy

agreed but some countries just deserve it 🙂 BTW Germany and France aren't races so you can't racist towards germans and frenchies

Sounds to me like you would be happier discussing things in the latte' area at Barnes and Noble. Its much less "threatening".

No, you insulted people by calling them racists and guilty of 'discrimination'.

Appeals for Political Correctness are not going to be welcome by one and all.

Spend some time on usenet, and notice that this place is far more civil.

That point has already been made. Thank you. Call it what you will - but there's still no reason not to be polite, to throw insults around and claim you're making a point.

I don't seek "PC". Just a bit of politeness. If I insulted anyone - I'm sorry - but I think that the only people who may have been insulted by that are the ones throwing insults around and claiming it makes a point. Why can I always manage to be polite (not just myself though) but others have to be insulting in order to try to make a point?

True but then we'd be feelingless drones. People always get emotional about things they believe in. What you're asking, cannot be done. That's just human nature. People that are not pacifist by nature will not become pacifist on a bulletin board.

I'm not a pacifist, but I am polite. I'm also not a feelingless drone, but I can give an arguement without resulting to a mud slinging match. There's a difference between being emotional and being rude.

Andy

Compared to the way this Forums was when there were less than 10,000 members this forum is very polite🙂 In fact if you think it's Rude now you should have seen it back during the last Presidential Elelctions. Now that was a fun time!

Your definition of rude isn't exactly the same as other people's. You need to learn to grow a thick skin to survive in this world.

if you take this internet forum too seriously, you might want to find another hobby

americans are renowned for being brash and arrogant, it isn't something to get too worked up about

Twice in this thread (and in others) you have whined about how people are calling France and Germany "names". Repeatedly on this board people call the Prez. a moron, an idiot, a war monger, a Facist, a Nazi, etc., etc. Where's all your outrage over that? Is it somehow OK to call the Prez a facist but calling the French cheese eating surrender monkeys is off limits?

First, I think the Prez IS an idiot. You think the same of me and will probably come back with some stunning remark worthy of you. I do not think that AMERICANS are idiots. Some yes, and I see it here every day. Notwithstanding, people in Europe feel differently by and large than many in the US. Good for them. The ones who support this administration? Good for them too. I do not particularly like Chirac, but Chirac is not the FRENCH any more than Bush is the US, or Blair is the UK. Want to insult me? Go for it, because that is your nature, and frankly I like someone who does not lie down and die. There are times when I even like you <smooch>. Insult any people you like to, be it based on nation or race. You want to go after Jessie Jackson? Then go after him by calling blacks all the traditional names and see how long you last. Although it is more acceptable to go after a group of people based on nationality, that does not make it right. Perhaps this distinction between attacking groups of people based on their race or nationality or ethnicity is beyond many and questioning and yes even insulting individuals based on their merits of leadership (or lack thereof) is elusive, but that is not a concept I have a problem with.

I haven't really been mad at Germany nor France until lately. When I heard how there was information pointing to Germany selling Biological mobile carts to Iraq and how in return Germany is getting plans on how to use biological warfare the way they do. And France? We dug France out so many go damn times it's not even funny. What about WWII where we gave re-built their cities because we want to help everyone?

IMO Germany and France can cram it. They have no room to talk and whine.

You're asking us to be Mr. Spock.

Most here are Capt. Kirk.

You're never gonna get around people, no matter who they are, negatively generalizing a whole group of like-minded individuals if those individuals do not agree with them.

Yes, you are right! Please read the post above for a fuller understanding. I'm saying that some people are posting insults and calling them arguements. I just wanted to see if people could behave in a more polite way towards each other - even when they disagree. I do all the time.
