Why is it when someone mis-spells a word someone else has to correct them? Are there that many typing or english teachers out of work?

Who Cares?

Even though I'm 99% sure it was spelled correctly, I am thankfull for the fact that you try to help. English isn't my main language, and I aspire to perfect it :D.

you might want to try loosening ram timings to eliminate ram out of the equation also.

People correct others spelling because they want to appear "smarter" and see it as a way of one upping a person if they dont agree on things 100% .

I can sympathize with those that don't speak english. I hang out in a couple spanish forums and it is pretty difficult for me to follow, even after 6 years of spanish. I don't mind the occasional slip or whatever, but it is pretty annoying when you cannot even make sense of the post due to grammar and spelling mistakes...

Anyways, this is the wrong forum.

You said exactly what I couldnt put into words.

Ok pointes taken on language barriers but then the whole paragraph should be corrected by the individual. But it still really goes back to what mindgam3 was able to say.

I hate that, when people do that in an argument (like PS3 vs XBOX360, I see this all the time on playstation.com forums), I guess they try to make themselves look smarter and feel they are more superior...the real fact is that it just makes them look like a major dweeb IMHO

An honest correction of spelling errors is different than the slight of hand change of direction to hide the weakness of one's argument. Many misspellings do raise the question of the verasity of the poster's post. Itis an unconscious and natural assumption that someone who cannot properly spell is equally unable to correctly measure their argument in an effective logical manner. Of course, this is all Bull**it. Since I only speak and write English, for me to criticize anyone for their spelling of English words without the knowledge of whether English is their primary or secondary language is in itself a sign of a weak intellect. Usually, as long as I understand the general idea of what the poster is attempting to convey I look upon the meaning of their words not so much their construction. I try not to become lost in the construction of the symbol but rather enjoy the impact of the symbol.

Edit: Accidentally erased "It" from the beginning of sentence. If I should have misspellings please forgive me my horrid transgression and I place myself humbly before you to ask for one boon only; that of your forgiveness. For my gentle nature does cry out and rebel against me that it has so offended you with its lack of care and ignorance that I can hardly dare to gaze upon its countenance.

When people type Semperon or Athalon they're likely saying the name wrong too. I'd rather be corrected by someone on a forum than ask for an "Athalon 65" at a computer store and watch the employee chuckle as he points you toward their selection of Athlon 64's.

For some reason I have the desire to spell correctly all the time when I type. I have a certain amount of knowledge that may be helpful to some people, as do most people on these forums, but credibility goes WAY down when you type "wuz" and "dat" or use "their" instead of "they're."

It's pretty obvious when someone is making spelling or grammar mistakes because english is not their native language, in which case they deserve some leeway since many people here can't even begin to carry on a conversation in another language, myself being one of those people.

Type-o's are different as well. Sometimes I'm typing fast and don't reread what I've typed and sometimes I spell a word wrong, or even completely leave out a word. That's fine, I don't have a problem when people do that. But when they consistantly misspell words in every sentence of every paragraph... or don't even form complete sentences or paragraphs or use punctuation, it makes me not want to read their post, and not take them seriously.

So if you want to be taken seriously, at least attempt to spell correctly and use proper grammar. If english is not your first language, learn from people who correct you... it will only improve your knowledge of the english language. If you want to be uber and "t41k 1ik3 d1s," don't expect anyone to take you seriously, and expect to be called a moron.
