I blame Bush for a lot of things... economy, social security and taxes, the environment, our society as a whole, etc... But I wouldn't blame him for Enron... He's not the one in charge over there...

How can you blame the man for all of these things when he has been in office for a little over a year...

1. The economy was seriously slowing before Clinton left office. This was widely reported in the mass media.

2. The recession was hastened by 9/11. See largest single drop in Dow history.

3. Leading economic indicators were somewhat positive the last time I looked, indicating that this would not be a deep recession.

4. Social Security? How has he ruined Social Security? Before answering that question, read the Constitution and tell me who has the power of the purse. Hint - It is not the President.

5. Environment - How has the environment worsened since he became president? I live in Houston - the most polluted city in the US. Smog warnings have been down. Things are strating to turn around. Is this to Bush's credit?

6. Our society as a whole - Quite frankly, I have never been more proud to be an American than I have during Bush's administration. Bush has ushered an era of new patriotism that has been sorely missed by many for a long time.

Would you care to cite some examples of how Bush is responsible for the moral decline of America in a little over a year? I can give you a long list of examples of Clinton's 8 years of moral malfeasance, if you like, that would seem to suggest that Clinton would be slightly more responsible for "society as a whole" NOW.

Incidentally, Busmaster - the Kyoto Treaty would have required massive investment by American corporations that would have seriously deepened the recession. The best way to combat a recession is through liquidity.

The Kyoto Treaty sucked - Bush was actually looking out for the interests of the most industrialized nation in the world - the one that would end up paying the most to upgrade its infrastructure. Kyoto would have raised prices in a recession, creating inflation and higher unemployment. This results in stagflation - for more on that, see the Carter Administration.

Your argument also assumes that the Greenhouse Effect exists. Many scientists are not willing to accept that yet.

*sigh* Don't take things too literally there buddy. Of course I can't blame Bush - or any one person for society or anything else thats wrong... It was an exxageration - a sign of resentment - thats all. I'm fully aware of the economics and the politics of Kyoto, but I am frustrated by what appears to me as inaction and the denial that anything needs to be done, or even considered.

As far as Social Security, if I can't blame the prez, I'll blame Republicans as a whole. :D

Charrison - I'm reading your link. Pretty interesting...

<< You can't really "blame" Enron for Bush. A few campaign contributions does not a president make. >>

There wasn't "a few" There were a lot of them and for very large amounts.

Ok - so would the Chinese be reponsible for electing Al Gore? Does that mean that the Chinese gov't, Communists, would have been responsible for Al Gore getting elected?
