Stock ZR1 goes low 10s on DR's...Again

It's only doing that because the ox cart suspension with leaf springs can't handle the power.🙄

Seriously. Surprised he was able to run low 10's with ancient pushrod technology. Must have secretly swapped in some sort of JDM engine. 😀

Just crap from arm-chair Top gear fans who will never own a supercar anyways...

As much as I enjoy watching TG, you learn pretty quick that a UK company that makes an all plastic 'sports car' does so to save weight and its 'brilliant!', but a plastic body panel that is plastic on a ZR1 is 'terrible'. Take it with a grain of salt...

The ZR1 is very light, thats one reason it handles so well.

3300lbs is light? It is literally more than twice the weigh of a Lotus Elise.

I take it you're referring to the first generation Elise which was not available in the US? The one with 118bhp?

I'll take 3300lbs at 638hp instead, thanks. 😛

Doesn't surprise me at all, even C6 Z06 could do mid-high 10s with a tire upgrade

I think there was actually someone that ran a 10.9x on a stock C6 Z06

Personally I'd still take the Z06 if I had a choice.... I can't get over that LS7 sound

Wow! Nice!

March 2012 issue of Automobile has the cover story: Camaro Outmuscles Corvette! That was versus a Corvette Grand Sport model, not the ZR1.

Camaro is a fat pile of shit compared to the Vette. I wouldn't even take the ~600hp or whatever super special Camaro vs a base C6.

Considering the size of the engine and supercharger, etc. its pretty light.

Consider that the Ferarri F430 is about the same weight, and uses more exotic materials, and is slower.

You forgot about 1 bagillion times better looking too.

Vette is still pretty fast though....a rocket sled would beat it though...

The only thing that'd be faster would be a solid axle.

Not really. An IRS will hook just as good or better than a solid axle when it's set up right. It's the poorly set up IRS that sucks. And it costs more when set up right, which isn't an issue with the ZR1.

I know you guys are just kidding about the oxcartness but leaf springs are used to save space and weight. Also Ferrari is starting to use leaf springs in some of their models as well. In fact, Delphi, which is owned by GM are their suppliers.

A transverse leaf spring (like the Corvette's) is a brilliant idea.
See what I did there? 😉

Proof on the Ferrari's using them?

you're confusing leaf springs with magnetic dampers.
