Still no Battlefield 3... How can they not make this?

Dice are the only ones that know how to make a great large scale online shooter. Nothing touches Battlefield 1942/Battlefield 2 / 2142 . Arma was horrible, Quake Wars was a huge dissapointment,Front Lines Fuel of War was mediocre etc.... etc...... Many have came to challenge BF2 but they have all been slayed into obscurity.Next year we have
Arma 2 which is going to be terrible once again and Operation Flashpoint 2 will suck.

It was weird how about a year ago all that unconfirmed info pored out :

80 man battles 40 vs 40
Vista only,DX 10
Modern day setting again
Create a soldier

BF3 will be the greatest game ever created.

I didn't care much for BF2. Infact I really didnt care for BF1942 either. Now Battlefield Vietnam was by far probaby my favorite war game ever. I wish EA would tap into that one more time with another Battlefield version of vietnam. I have played 2142 since it came out, but just in the last 6-8 months really got back into it and played it alot. However since COD 5 has came out, I will probably uninstall 2142.

I don't think they would be dumb enough to go Vista/DX10 only. Every game that has done that has:

A. Sold very few copies
B. Been pirated and cracked to work on XP

They might try to add in some "DX10 only" settings like Crysis, but I bet they too can be unlocked.

BF2 sold over 2 million copies. EA will make another one. I'm actually surprised that they don't have a new BF game every year.

This idea of making separate games for the console and the PC really isn't so bad. After the Unreal Tournament III disaster (PC game gets consolized user interface and server browser and is rushed to a premature release as an unfinished beta) I kind of like the idea of having separate games for the console and the PC. By releasing a game for the console their publisher is satiated for a while and the console kiddies' money flows in, allowing them to invest the proper amount of time and resources in making a real PC game, at least I hope that's how BF3 works out.

They realized they could make way more money on consoles (BF: Bad Company). That means the PC side of BF development will probably be put on the back burner.

I still play BF 2 occasionally. It's one of the few online shooters i've ever really gotten into besides UT.

I've played BF2 a few times and it was fun but I didn't get into it too much. BF1942 and Desert Combat though, were garbage IMO. A lot of people loved it but the most fun I had in those games was messin around.

BF2 was fun for a while, but now it definitely shows it's age.

To be honest, the one thing that bugs me the most about BF2 isn't the gameplay itself, it's the stability of the game. Just look at the menus alone, they're incredibly cumbersome and take long to load on even the fastest PC's. Also, lack of native widescreen support is frustrating as well.

As far as gameplay goes... it's hard to say. On one end, I loved the vehicles, but I hated the whole idea that you had to compete for the jets and helicopters almost all the time. Truthfully, the maps are too small for jets. You fly for ten seconds and you're already having to turn around again. Infantry only servers were honestly the most fun servers to play... some vehicles felt helplessly overpowered when you went up against them and you happened to be the wrong class. I dunno.

Yep, I agree with all of this stuff. The server browser/menus absolutely suck. IMO you should have to be of a certain rank to fly a jet/heli or something. I know that would be really annoying to new players, but something should be done. Maybe you should have to be able to complete a relatively difficult obstacle course in single player that gives you a certification. Then we could at least know that the people flying know how to fly. And the whole map boundary thing shouldn't apply to aircraft at all, at least within a reasonable distance.

I like that idea! Like your driver certs in Gran Turismo games. You could certify for different vehicles, like not just 1 test for all helicopters, but different tests for each one, progressively harder for the more difficult to maneuver vehicles.

Hell yeah BF2 rocked. Frustrating at times, but awesome multiplayer FPS for the most part. Vehicles rocked. Can't wait for the next one.

The punkbuster boot usually means it (punkbuster client) needs to be updated. Google it and it will give you instructions.

BF1942 was my favorite and was the only BF I got my $$s worth from. Unntil they started pumping out Expansions and it became too irritatin to continue with.

BF2 certainly is a good game. Played the Demo then rushed out and bought the game 3 days after it was released. It wouldn't work for me for almost a whole year, by then I had lost interest and never played it much.

Haven't and won't be buying another BF game, ever.
