Still no Battlefield 3... How can they not make this?

Battlefield 2 was and still is a phenomenal game despite the terrible hit detection, long loading times, and multiple patch issues.

The sales, reviews, and community went right along with it. Battlefield 2 is one of the best selling and most played PC games ever.

The games expansions and BF 2142 were alright but no Battlefield 3.

PC gamers have been long awaiting Battlefield 3, so what do they do? They make yet again another sub-par (compared to the PC games) version of Battlefield on the consoles...
Not only they but it's console exlusive!?!? How are you going to take an amazing PC exlusive series and make 2 games in a row console exlusive. Unlike most games, piracy is hardly an issue at all for the Battlefield series so I don't see the reasoning for this.

Now we've got Heroes coming up. What the fuck? Goodluck trying to reach the general audience for a computer shooter game. Mom is not going to be googling around for online shooters for 8 year old little Johnny, she is going to be getting kid games at the store.

So the only ones who will even be aware of Heroes existance are the same ones who are dieing for Battlefield 3 and not cartoon rip-off of the series.

Does what I'm saying make sense? I just find it rediculous that there is still no Battlefield 3 yet or even a game announcement. This game would/will have no problem at all selling millions if it's up to par with BF2.

BF2 is not the end of hardcore shooters on the PC for DICE
BT: Between the console-based Bad Company and the more casual, kind of accessible feel of Heroes, some hardcore fans may be worried that the once realistic, PC-only shooter is now...

BC: Changed?

BT: Yeah, like it?s going to suddenly become this casual, console-only shooter.

BC: Well, I?m the executive producer on the franchise. I?m really in charge of the entire Battlefield franchise and it?s very clear to me that there are three?well, we have to make this a three-pronged assault with the series really.

First, there are consoles. Consoles are really big, we can?t ignore them, we have to be on the consoles. Second, there?s this casual experiment we?re going with Battlefield: Heroes and the third prong is the hardcore PC gaming experience. We?ve made those in the past and we?ll continue to make them in the future. We aren?t specifically announcing anything, but we are still going to keep those hardcore gamers very happy.

A lot of people are confused when they see Heroes because they see it and assume that that is the future of Battlefield on PC, but it isn?t.

BF2 wasent all that great but it wasent terrible, the state it was released in was pretty appauling, after the massive patch when it became stable it was allright... a passable online FPS, nothing special.

I liked Battlefield 2, it's decent, but I still prefer Battlefield 1942 and its various expansions, that one was something back then, well in fact it was the first of its type and I can't remember any on-line shooter back then where we could play with 63 other players on such large scale (for the time) levels, it was absolutely epic, and being able to drive so many vehicles and aircrafts in free manners, nothing scripted, go anywhere, do anything, on-line, in team-based game-play, what could be better.

I agree with the OP that BF2 is an epic game. I am definitely waiting on a graphical refresh of it and some physics improvements. However, EA's probably gonna a pull a "Oh, but piracy is RAMPANT on PC!!!!1oneoneoneone" and give us all a 5 time activation limit or just plainly not make one.

Because EA doesn't spend time on game genres they can't have a monopoly on.

I don't care what any one says, BF2 was so damn fun. I haven't played it recently but once I get my new system built later this month, I'm ganna fire BF2 and play it. How many other games could you play with 64 people??? Air was horribly overpowered and shots didn't register all the time but it was still damn fun.

They already made BF3 - It's called BF 2142. To be honest, BF2 was pretty good as far as it goes. Nothing to write home about, I got bored after a short time with it. It's fairly decent as a shooter goes, but then again so is CS, and Doom, and Quake, and Far Cry.

WOOH, back off son. I am no one's protege, nor are we colluding; our tastes differ vastly. I can offer mutual respect for pontifex in some areas for his recognition of shiza when he sees it.

That's like saying BF:V is BF2. BF 2142 is a mod for BF2, and EA/DICE knows it. That's what they do with the series - make a game with a new engine, make a mod of that with the same engine, start over. It's working really well for them, and those of us who know what their business model is stay happy with the decent releases.

That said, I hope DICE doesn't rush BF3 out the door like they did with BF2. Not only was the game horribly buggy when it first came out, but the first week or two it was unplayable due to the lag on the whoever-wants-to-host-a-server-can online play.

BF2 is still one of the most played online multiplayer games(ranked 5th as of today by xfire), even after 3 years. EA is pretty stupid since it is such a huge cash cow due to the revenues generated from server rental royalties they receive.

Great game. Got me into playing competively in TWL and CAL, made tons of good friends and so much fun to play with others you know.

BF2 has flawless vehicle execution. Just needs better hit detection. In fact, I'm not even sure what I'd want or expect out of BF3 perhaps a better more varied selection of maps and better hit detection. I don't even have any issues with the graphics. Oh yea, a better menu system.

So true. No other game does the large scale battles + vehicles better. The hit detection makes sniping practically impossible (although I have gotten some awesome hits on moving targets), but the epicness of the battles is what people play for. They have the game model down right - they just need to get the mechanics working better. Oh, and infantry need better ways to take down aircraft (handheld stingers anyone?).
