Figured with all the tipping threads I'd share my story of the day.

I give a waitress five strikes before I stiff em, which rarely, if ever happens. I'm out for brunch with my fiancee (a waitress).

Strike one:
When ordering, I had to yell at her before she walked away that I wanted a coke. Then it took 10 minutes to come.

Strike two:
Fiancee and I both specifically asked for no hash browns, and fruit instead. Hash browns still come.

Strike three: I asked for no whipped cream on pancakes, she puts it on anyways.

Strike four: Upon sending our food back, it took 12 minutes to get our omelettes back. 12 minutes to transfer the omelette to a new plate and add fruit? Pfft.

Strike five: Was not checking back to see if we needed refills. And took an additional 7-8 minutes after bussing us to bring the check.

edit: strike 6: asked for a box to take home extra food. We could see a stand about 20 feet away from us with take home boxes, but what does she do after we ask for a box? Service four other tables before coming back. I was on my way to get one myself when she finally came back.

So I complained to the manager, got $5 off, and stiffed her.

If you do a crappy job, don't expect even 10%.

I would have even gone as far to tell her that her service was sh!t and she's getting some pocket lint for a tip.

You sure you didn't get any extra "flavoring" from the kitchen when you sent your food back?

Are you sure it was the waitress that kept messing up your order and not the kitchen?

Not like she could look on the plate before she brought it out or anything...

A tip is given for good service. If the service isn't good, why the fvck would you give a tip?

I mean all of those strike are obviously her fault right?
It just could not be taht the chiefs made the mistake even though she told them to put ie) no hashbrowns or whipcream.
Just my 2 cents

regardless of whether or not the kitchen screwed up their order... it is the servers responsibility to ensure it is correct before reaching the table. in all my years in rest managment, i have never gotten mad at a server for refusing to take food out of the kitchen that was not as ordered by the customer, or so messed up it was inedible.

it is the servers responsibility to ensure that food reaches the table fresh, correct and at the right temp.

:) :) :)

she admitted that she put the whipped cream on herself...everything else, she should have noticed even if she didnt do it herself.

With service that bad, the restaurant would be lucky for me to pay them anything.

Thank God. If you tip people that do ****** jobs, then there's no incentive for a waitress to do a good job.

Regardless, whether the service is great or crap, you should always tip your waitress/waiter even if it is only 5% or so. You might think that they will take 5% as a joke if the normal tip is 15%, but it is better than nothing. As everyone knows, waiters are paid nothing and depend on tips, congragulations Lucky on making this woman lose her hourly wage.

She still makes her hourly wage. What state do you live in that has no minimum wage for waitresses. Provide a link on your labor dept website to back it up as well.
