Took the plunge flashed the 7.03 stable build and universal gapps along with the OC kernal. Will have to play around a bit get things set up to my liking. I think I prefer the simplicity of the nookie froyo ron but getting getting solid Bluetooth and other advanced features is important so I will deal with the learning curve 😉

Just flashed the nightlies, invested a few bucks and bought rom manager, kernal manager pro version's,support the deb's and make my life easier

thanks poofy, but even with your method, it still crashes or the video locks up.

anyhow, i initially used the 1gb image to put on the emmc. if i wanted to change that to an 8gb image, would i have to do a clean install?

not your fault. i knew, but i was being lazy and wasn't patient enough to wait for the creation of the 8gb image. it didn't really matter anyhow, at least until lately when they made the memory accessible.

The range of bluetooth is greatly improved. I am away from my home so I don't have my entire set of bluetooth devices to test, but my bluetooth GPS now pairs from 2 feet away (used to have to sit right behind Nook) and works from 5-6 feet. My Retro Wii controller that use to sync from a foot and work within 6 feet now syncs within 6 feet and works within 12+ feet (I ran out of space to test). I would compare this to how my wife's iPad 2 works with these devices, but it thinks its too good for such things.

I don't have mine on me, but I bet bluetooth headsets don't work as that would require a lot of alsa hackery outside what was done for bluetooth. Worth a test though.
Which version of CM7 are you using?

Anybody having issues with unresponsive reader (market b and n nook reader)? It's really sluggish and the right upper buttons are unresponsive and sluggish.

Did a clean data and Cache wipe. Using CM7.1. 2.6.32 with the overclock kernel. Rest of the tablet is running well. Its like the upper right of the reader is unresponsive (search and settings button).
I uninstalled and re-instaled the AP still problematic.

Yeah, I recommend Phiremod right now. It is built on a really stable base with the best bluetooth we have so far. Plus all its other improvements make it a smooth ROM. Only thing missing is an overclock kernel. If you want that flash the 24th emmc kernel after the Phiremod ROM:

Mine runs at 1.3GHZ smoothly. It is worth a shot- I have not heard of it bricking any Nooks.

EDIT: Here is the best honeycomb theme:

Just finished flashing phiremod, lol I change roms daily

Happily watching Netflix in my bed, I'm using the hacked APK without device check & Netflix is streaming beautifully!

The newest CM7 betas have moved to the .32 kernel, which means the Test Build is no longer useful. One thing I have learned is that apparently its best to flash the overclock kernel for .32 right after you flash any beta that is 81+. I personally haven't done that yet, as I am going out of town for a week tomorrow, and my Nook is rock solid on the test build.

Guess I'm moving to this thread soon.

So the current plan is to dual-boot CM7 (OC) and stock (non-OC) from eMMC for "tablet" and "e-reader" modes respectively. Does each boot OS get a totally separate /data and /system?

Yes. It resizes the media partition to do it.

Be careful and use the older stable CM7 if you plan to dualboot, as the dualboot uboot messes up newer versions of CM7.

I was using mine to play a game and it just locked up on me this morning. After trying to reboot, it would just get stuck at the blinking android cursor, and would sometimes load the phiremod boot animation and get stuck there.

I have tried wiping and re-installing, going back to stock, and nothing seems to keep it from locking up.

Any ideas?

I think I am about to give up on this thing. Now when I boot into clockwork on an SD card, it will format system but not /data or /cache. I am not sure what is wrong with this thing, just came out of the blue. Anyone interested in a soft bricked nook color with otterbox defender?

Any other suggestions as to what to try?

I have tried the flash to 1.2 method here - http://mrm3.net/nook-color-recover-any-bricked-device/

Strange thing is after I tried that, it tried to still boot up but still had the phiremod boot animation that is was locking up on occasionally (when it wasnt locked up at the android blinking cursor screen).

I have tried the repartition boot with stock and tried going back to stock, did not want to take.

Is there something I am doing wrong here?

That did not work at all. Nor did using the stock to 1.2 update, or pretty much anything else I have tried. Still stuck on boot. Occasionally it will load up the phiremod boot animation, which is strange since I have tried reverting back to stock a couple of times now and it still wont work.

Now it just gives me an error if I try formatting, system, data, or cache, so I am not sure what I can do to bring it back. Works just fine booting to a memory card though, I tried a bootable image of honeycomb last night and it works great.

ok, ive looked over the thread, and im interested in getting and rooting a nook...kinda

what i *want* is to read, and i dont use my laptop much, and...well id read on my phone but its 3.7" which is too small

how fool proof is hacking with the nook? im comfortable if theres not a huge number of bricks from the process but if its sketchy or a headache id probably avoid it (im a nerd, but a lazy one)

what benefits/drawbacks are there that i may have missed running through the thread? this seems like the place to ask, sorry if i should have started a thread.

The Nook Color boots from its SD slot so its impossible to brick. Hacking is pretty easy for this reason, but learning the lingo can be challenging.

Its a great tablet if you are open to experimentation and are willing to hack. The issue is the time drain to learn what to do. I can go from stock Nook Color to tablet in 15 mins, but it took me two weeks to learn the process. I have tried to drop most of that knowledge in this thread.

If you want a project with a definate payoff get a Nook Color, if you want a tablet with little fuss get a Transformer.
