Steven Colbert is a douche

I must say, I never really watch The Colbert Report, I just watched his interview with artist Jeff Koons. Colbert came off as a total dick and wasn't even funny with his condescending comments. Did anyone else saw this segment felt the same? And is Colbert always this rude to his guests?

someone's slow on the uptake...

you realize it's all an act, right? he does that with every guest.

I once wrote an email to a very cool hollywood star (back when he still communicated to fans), in the same tone of voice that OP did regarding a lecture he gave to my class.

I thought he would laugh and think it was funny.

I ended up hurting his feelings, he thought I was serious, and I felt like a dick.

Anyway, long story short, people won't always get the sarcasm, so don't do it.

An excellent piece of wisdom.
Sarcasm can be a very effective rhetorical tool, but only when used sparingly. Otherwise even the most well intentioned and intelligent speaker or writer just sounds like a condescending ass.

I've been trying to keep that in mind myself. I have a natural tendency to be sarcastic, and if I entertain it I can be a bit of a douche. Luckily life keeps me humble... but not always.

This is the thing with trolling in general. I have a friend online who trolls a lot as part of normal conversation/chat (often stealthily), and it can be a bit off-putting, because you can never 100% trust him, even during a serious conversation. This is especially true online, because there's no voice/tone, facial expressions, body language, etc.

Colbert can troll because it's his thing, and he's doing it in person. The same rules don't apply imo.

i troll my friends all the time over texts. i swear ive only known one guy my whole life who always got it. he always lolz. nobody else does. theyre always sayin "what?" and im just sittin there goin "just playin"

Yeah...Steven Colbert IS a douche.

But man...that Stephen Colbert is f'n hilarious...maybe you should give him a try.

BTW...is Koons your boyfriend or something? Eff that pretentious twat and his 23 million dollar "art".

I didn't see the episode, but my guess is that it's nothing compared to when he did the White House Correspondents dinner. He was pretty brutal.

i always hoped colbert was some sort of gigantic asshole off camera and someday we got to see his real side. hes a really nice guy from all that ive known about him though

LOL- you're not getting the joke. Colbert plays a character that is a combination of all the bad things in today's media. He acts rude, self-indulgent, and superior...it's a parody of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Keith Olbermann, and so forth. Don't worry, the guests get it when they're on.

I remember watching that and laughing so hard I had trouble breathing. Poor Bush looked completely lost, as usual, which only made it better.

Going to have to watch it again now!

Satire doesn't always make sense to everyone, and Colbert is no douche. If you want a true bag of douche we'll have to refer you to a one Sean Hannity. Pure, unadulterated, 100% satire-free douchebaggery that characters like Colbert can only dream about emulating!
