It's funny how ignorant Apple fans are.

According to Eurogamer, the majority of the 1,000 people surveyed (26%) believe that Steve Jobs is the leading man who shaped video games. Meanwhile, Gabe Newell, the co-founder of Valve – one of the most influential companies in the industry – received only 16% of the votes. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario – the most recognizable game character in the world – received only 7% of the votes.

Well they did justify sort of why Jobs was the most influential for that particular sampling, unless of course they did a truly random sample somewhere else that had nothing to do with that convention.

In which case... seriously?

In other news my friends 1993 toyota corolla 5 speed with 241k miles is worst then then a 300k mile ford pinto with a bashed body and busted rear speakers and exposed gas tank.

Steve Jobs will be missed but really now he is god?

Reminds me of how people reacted to the king of pop when he died he went from a child molester to the greatest singer of all time....when you die as someone famous you could have commited murder like ted kennedy but when you die you contributed more then anyone else to mankind....

I was going to say that every other choice was probably an influential person, so the other 74% would have been votes made by people who know better than to vote Jobs but they just have different opinions. All this survey would prove is that 26% of people are idiots, which would be surprisingly low.

But then I saw that it said 46% of them voted him in a top 5 list.

Still waiting for the day you have a toilet with a docking station for charging and you can program the toilet to use so many liters per flush or clean itself....

Figured the perfect name would be the iFLUSH....even remotely flushing the toilet from across town cause you forgot you had left a floater....

It's the Cult of Apple, plain and simple. There's no other way to explain it. I could easily see a day when the man is deified. Why not? He's the closest thing to a messiah that some out there have. I'd laugh if it wasn't so scarily possible.

Unfortunately he's never cried. :D

"Hey look, a poll! 'Who's the most influential man in video games?' Hmm, let's see... uhh... I don't recognize any of the people on here. Oh wait, there's Steve Jobs! I know who that is!" *votes*

Not to disrepect Steve Jobs because he just died, but he didn't do sh*t for video games, if anything, he held them back.

LessThanDan is right. It was probably just because it was a name the people recognized. Like a "Hey I know that guy did stuff for things". I bet most of the 1000 had zero idea who Gabe Newell or Shigeru Miyamoto are.

I know it's the cool thing to blame Apple and their fans instead of actually seeing how this could be, but it's more just uninformed people who don't realize Jobs really didn't do anything at all for games.

EDIT: Yep, I was probably right. "The London Games Conference is a small event that that is heavily focused on the digital, social, cloud, and iOS/Android side of gaming."

A survey done of people who`s gaming is on phones and App developers. Uninformed of actual contributors to real console and PC games. It`s like asking a McDonalds regular who is the most influential chef. They`d probably pick Ronald McDonald.

That's a stretch. I think that the iPhone and iPad certainly did a lot of casual gaming but to put him as the top person in all of history is retarded.

Casual gaming on those devices is, at best, a happy accident. And Steve had absolutely nothing to do with that. The developers of those popular games did, but its arguably too early to award them a place in a poll like this. Can't see their impact yet. Give in 5 or 10 years.

Wow, non of you think that Sir Jobs was the most influential in video games? I think the people over in the Mac Gaming forum might disagree. Oh, wait there is no Mac Gaming forum.

Negative influence is still influence...like Hitler.

I invoke Godwin's law. This thread should now be locked.

Which is funny because most iPod users don't even know who Steve Jobs was.

iEDIT: No wonder, it's from a survey of 1000 people, and, "The London Games Conference is a small event that that is heavily focused on the digital, social, cloud, and iOS/Android side of gaming"
