That looks frickin' awesome, when they're done building it I'd love to go check it out. It's crazy how green it's going to be.

Except it's not that green to throw tons of functional existing buildings into a landfill, and it really doesn't integrate with the surrounding city at all.

Who's going to walk or bike to work there? Might get a few bikers, but no one is going to walk.

The message of his presentation was really, really strange: office campuses are bad except when apple does it and tosses in a few green gimmicks.

better than many suburban office parks, but far short of potential.

edit: just did the math on how big that building is, given typical tech office square footages of 200-250 rentable s.f. per worker (all in)

12,000 workers = 2.4 million sf - 3 million s.f.

Kind of besides the point, this is california sprawl, very few of their workers probably can or would bike or walk to work by default.

This seems a bit premature.

Has his psychic dominator gone online yet in San Francisco?

Seriously.

Did anyone else watch it? Some of the stuff they said to him was real awkward though...the one asian woman thinking it would be funny to ask "I want to know if you are going to have free wi-fi for everyone in Cupertino?" Then she asked something about iPads...Jobs just looked down in embarassment probably thinking to himself he will never show up to do one of these things again.

Looks like the chemo has gone to Steves brain.

With the cancer, how long is he going to live? Maybe another year or two? He probably will not live long enough to see the construction of such a project finished.

yea I bet even if Jobs was considering doing something like free wifi, after that line of questioning, he probably changed his mind. That woman is what's wrong with govt! GIVE GIVE GIVE!

Yea there were a bunch of awkward moments.

I liked his response to the WiFi question though - "Well, we pay taxes, so the city should handle the WiFi"

I think the traffic question was legitimate though, since instead of going to a bunch of office parks, 12,000 people will be going to 1, with seemingly 1 entrance and exit...

He's probably not used to it but that kind of dumb shit happens at all these kind of things. City Councils and aldermen ask some retarded shit on a regular basis.

Plus, lots and lots of glass = a ton of energy for the AC. Glass lets in lots of sunlight and doesn't provide any insulation.

Wow, that's a lot of acreage for a little amount of building. That company just spews money at will.

Average high temp in Cupertino is like 60-80something year round. There is another render posted elsewhere that has perpendicular fins coming off the building the create some shade. It is also amazing what they can do with glass these days, the expensive high performance stuff can reject up to 80% of solar heat and high 90%s of UV.

Well it's not regular glass, it's iGlass, so it should offer plenty of insulation, never scratch, never get dirty, never break, and is multitouch. Yeah I said it, multitouch windows.

word.

Yeah that was pretty awesome when his response was essentially "we're your biggest taxpayer, and we'll be paying MORE taxes. Or we can build this somewhere else." Also interesting that Steve Jobs talks about this building the same way he talks about Apple products.

The question about fire safety was pretty silly - this building looks like it'd be safer than most, because it's only 4 stories and pretty narrow. Everyone will be closer to an exit than they would be in a tall, square building, and there won't be a crush of people taking the same routes out of the building.

I don't know where that guy was going with the question about the cement plant.
