Oh Yeah I Need To Contact A DolphinTrainer Also To See What Kind Of Degree I Need To Be A Dolphin Trainer.. Does Anyone Know Of Someone Or Someplace That Is Hiring In South Florida??

Holy christ is she one of those morons who posts with a capital letter at the beginning of every word! Wow that's annoying.

Looks like she'll need a degree in Marine Biology anyway. There is like 2 places in SoFla - Miami Seaquarium being one of them, I'm certain that its not simple to get a job, but it IS bone-simple, its just a circus for dolphins. Very sad how they keep the animals there. Its not at all like seaworld where they actually have real biologists, doctors, veterinary care, and they save and treat marine mammals and reptiles and turtles all year. Same goes for the Biscayne National Park - rangers there seem to really care.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it - your stepsister is a ditz.

So, she wants to work with animals outside instead of a being a cube monkey. Sounds pretty normal to me.
how hard is it to train a dolphin anyway? if they really are that smart, just bait them with a fish every time you want them to do something...
What kind of fish do you like?

Yes, but it's kind of laughable when someone who didn't put in the effort to learn capitalization rules thinks they can waltz into a job where applicants far outnumber positions.

Can someone tell me why people capitalize the first letter of every word? Is it a bug in some smartphone that causes it to happen automatically, or do people do it intentionally? I've seen it many times recently.

Anyone can get a seam mammal to jump through hoops if you throw enough fish at them.

Now, ... if she could train a St. Bernard to act like a dolphin, that would be something.

I don't understand why so many people want to be marine biologists... Like how did this become so popular. I can understand there being some people that want to be one, but it seemed like 50% of my highschool wanted to be one...

So many people "say" they want to be a marine biologist, particularly as kids. In the real world its a LOT of retching off the side of the boat, fiddling with whale anuses, and mucking through snot.

(j/k I have no idea what MB's actually do)

blame it on George Costanza

I wanted to be a marine biologist in 5th grade, I think mostly because my teacher had a saltwater aquarium. Wore off quickly though when I realized memorizing shit wasn't my thing.

I have a friend that just graduated with a marine biology degree in April. He doesn't want to do it anymore.

I don't see what Happy Puppy has to do with this thread.. 😎

Yeah, it's a tough field to get in to. I was a husbandry biologist at a couple aquariums (mostly sharks, rays and turtles), but also helped out the mammal teams as needed (tigers and otters in particular).

Getting to care for cold blooded animals was hard enough; the competition to care for and train cute warm blooded creatures is absolutely savage.

If there's no Marine Biology program then a major/minor or double-major combo of psychology/biology is pretty common.

Getting husbandry experience of any kind, any way possible, is absolutely key. This means anything from working at Pet Smart to volunteering at a shelter, volunteering and/or internships at local Zoos or Aquariums to doing university research involving animals, etc...

Obviously, being a strong swimmer is important. Scuba diving experience will likely be required as well.

Jobs are few and far between, and it's absolutely an industry where who you know counts. So I would advise she expand her aspirations beyond just working with dolphins. I know a few people who started with dolphins and ended up working with elephants or tigers or primates, etc...

Places like Disney and Seaworld (and probably lots of others) have super strict appearance codes as well, which restrict everything from no visible tattoos to acceptable hair styles and dye colors.

I blame it on the enormous popularity among high schoolers of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou movie starring Bill Murray.

My phase of wanting to become a Marine Biologist traces back to the day I saw that Seinfeld episode where Constanza saves a whale by unplugging its blowhole, that happened to get there via Kramer hitting golf balls into the sea.

Seriously, as our population increases and our oceans health becoming threatened, Marine Biology is increasing in importance I would assume. I have no idea what the demand is, but given how little we know about our oceans and how much food comes from it, I think it could be a very rewarding career.

We know so little about our oceans and its occupants its amazing really.

Heh, judging from my sister's experience it's a lot of lab work.

She actually did an undergrad degree in regular old biology. The "marine" stuff was largely the result of work/research experience she did on the side and during the summer. She got to do some cool field work (a lot of diving in Panama and the Mediterranean) but like with most academic science the tedious, repetitive work takes up a lot more time than the exciting stuff. I haven't really asked her what she's going to be doing her PhD work in.

i took marine biology in undergrad. I thought we would be learning about sharks, octopusses, sharctopussess....and stuff. wrong!

most boring class evar. all i remember is stuff like ocean zones and currents and stupid bullshit.

not one single shark or orca video.

So does he want to sell his degree? Kill two birds with one stone.

Perhaps your step-sister could be an entrepreneur. For instance, I'm not aware of dolphins delivering mail, or reading to the blind, or programming AI operating systems for embedded processors in seaside vending machines. The field is wide open; she could be the Bill Gates of dolphin training.

Sorry. I meant: She Could Be The Bill Gates Of Dolphin Training.

c'mon man, i know all hawaiian women are goddessess
All YOUNG Hawaiian women are goddesses. All OLD Hawaiian women are walking brontosaurs. One theory is that the old, fat Hawaiian women eat the young, beautiful Hawaiian women . . .

Yeah, mostly I just wanted to see that pic in one of my posts.
