Sneaks in? It's more like they get the sh*t beat out of them, get thrown down the garbage chute and somehow end sliding into the wrong bus, heading to playoffs.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and say that Pittsburgh needs one for the thumb. Bandwagons aside, Cowher deserves a ring.

Agreed. I think Cowher is a big reason why I've liked Pitt for a long time. I first became a fan back when they were eaten by the Cowboys for lunch in whatever superbowl that was. I loved the defense (Joe Greene, Greg Lloyd, etc.) and I liked the running game. Then they got Bettis and he impressed me as well. I guess it was Cowher's emotion that really did the trick.

I think you mean Kevin Greene. Joe Greene was on the Steel Curtain defenses of the 1970's. 🙂

And it was 1995. Neil O'Dumbass threw 2 balls right to Larry brown of the Cowboys. What a crock. Still makes me mad. :|

I knew the guy's name was Greene😛 And yeah, never was impressed with Neil😛 Cordell was a nice toy for a few years😛

I agree. I've always liked Cowher, and I've always liked the Steelers (for their history and style of play), but I'd never label myself a "Steelers fan" though. The AFC has been very intersting to watch this year. Unlike the NFC which has just been ugly. You know things are bad when you can be at .500 and still make the playoffs (albeit thru the back door).

Steelers looked good this year, stumbled a bit toward the end of the season, but eh, it doesn't much matter at this point. Question for you Steelers fans tho, what was the deal with last year? Same team (for the most part) minus Ben, do you REALLY think Ben is so good that he turned the team around single handedly.. Was Maddox really that bad? What's the deal?

The key differences from last year are
- Vastly improved O-line
- Return to a ball-control offense
- Impressive season from Harrison, Farrior and Polamalu on D
- Duce Staley

Staley and Bettis have just about split the load evenly. Staley played most of the first half of the season which meant Bettis was fresh when he stepped in, and a fresh Bettis against defenses which have been beaten up for a half-season is very effective.

Big Ben has been very impressive, but the biggest thing he's done is not make mistakes. Maddox is a good QB but last year's offense was more pass-oriented and that's not the Steelers' strength. They've won a lot of games this year by getting the lead and then just pounding the ball on the ground. You can really see the defenses start to wilt late in the game. They start trying to arm-tackle Bettis instead of hitting him head-on, and that doesn't work.

15-1 record .... wow ! I thought they might end up with 9 or 10 wins this year. The Steelers are very much a " Team " this year with really no " Star " player. They are together as it should be for a Football team to win. Just look at this Bills win for the perfect example of this.

But the new season begins now. Every playoff team is 0-0 right now. I believe this team is very focused for this.

On to the Super Bowl Steelers ! ! ! !

Biggest difference.......

HEALTH.

And they still are one of the least healthy teams in the league....

Don't forget they made the playoffs the 3 years before last.

😀

Just an off year.

I agree with Kranky, Ben has been extremely good. Solid player, good decisions.. I like him.

We got it done? What position do you play for the Steelers?

Sorry, that's one of my biggest pet peeves. Your team got it done, not you.

Regardless, the Steelers look very good, but how can anyone call Cowher such a great coach? He lost all the respect I had for him during the '01 season when he told his team to "pack for New Orleans" prior to the Pats game. After that I've really come to the belief he is an average coach with an amazing team this year.
