sheesh does every valve/steam thread have to turn into a fanboy/bashing thread?

This may be shocking, but people have differing opinions. Most things people do are on a risk vs. reward basis. I know the risks with steam and for me the reward is worth it. Could I wake up tomorrow and find out Steam has gone bankrupt and I can't play my games any more? Sure. Will I? I think the chances are good enough it won't happen that I'll stick with Steam. Disagree? Fine! You and I have different degress of risk tolerance and I will agree to disagree with you. Different strokes for different folks.

I've also never resold any PC games I've purchased, so while I recognize the "you can't resell the games!" argument is in fact valid it does not effect me in the least. Bothers you? Then don't buy Steam only games, play them, and resell them. You get what you want and I get what I want. Win win situation!

In any event, enjoy Portal, the game really gets fun once you get past the training ;)

I've got no problem with everyone voting with their dollars for sure. I don't like every law that's passed either, but unfortunately (for me) the world doesn't revolve around my wants and desires. :)

get outta here, there is no room for rational thought in this forum... ;)

I just had to redo my computer (install Vista SP2? Sure why not!!!)
And Valve makes reinstalling all my games like butter.

Resell games? Gimme a break.

Okay, I bit the bullet and installed Steam and bought the Orange Box. Portal does make ya think a bit, good game. I probably should have bought the retail box instead of downloading. I think I'm up to about twelve hours of download time and still don't have even half the games downloaded yet.

I haven't touched Steam ever since it messed up my system with the original HL2.

Thankfully Valve's games aren't my type of games so I really haven't had a motive to install Steam again. There are pros/cons of Steam as mentioned in this thread, and for me the cons vastly outweigh the pros. Now if Blizzard were to develop a Steam-like application it'd be tough for me. (then again I'm fairly certain Blizzard will not dare to develop such a system)

Okay, so now I've played Half Life 2 w/ episode 1 and 2. Am I correct in thinking that Valve never got around to finishing the story?

i installed my first steam game the other day, saints row 2, and to start off with i was a little pissed about having to install one piece of software to install another, but then after i installed SR2 steam updated it to the latest version, and i was able to take the disc out of my computer put it back in its case and pack it away so that my wife doesnt yell at me for leaving shit laying around.

as someone who has no intention of ever buying a game through steam and who already knows ways around having to use the discs to play and does not intend to sell any of his games when he is finished with them i would have to say that the extra 5 minutes that you have to spend downloading and installing steam and updating it every now and again is no real hassel, and far better than having to go hunting for a disc every time i want to play a game.

I love steam because you dont need cd keys or install discs. Plus you can just copy over game files from other computers or backed up files, makes like easy
