For those that purchased Railworks.. is it worth $6 for the amusement it provides?

I thought "For 6 bucks, why not try it?" Well... Horrendous load times. I have 3x80GB SSD in RAID0 and a 4.2Ghz i7 and this thing takes a long time to load... In fact, the second map I loaded caused a .net 2.0 framework error and crashed... Now I I can't seem to load anymore. Never had a problem with the 20 or so other games currently installed on my system.

hey guys, never played Supreme Commander 2, is it any good ? The only RTS I played was SC2 and i liked it a lot, really liked how it was a quick pick up n play game. Is this game similar ?

No. It's not. I regretted I even wasted my time installing the game.

What? Trials is an awesome game for 2.50.
AVP is awesome...def worth 5 bucks.
Spore is great.
COD4...speaks for itself.
Trials looks ok & I do remember reading good things about it. But am not sold on it. Maybe I'll mull over it, but eh.
Didn't read anything good, or convincing about AVP.
Was kind of interested in Spore, then saw the price was only for the one game, and not the entire pack. I'll pass.
Don't care for COD games. I like sci-fi type shooters more.

I enjoyed the Supreme Commander 2 campaign. I didn't try any multiplayer, but I imagine it would be quite different. I picked it up at the last Steam sale and I think it was around the same price. Its different from Supreme Commander 1 and certainly not like Total Annihilation. The tiered unit structure is gone for example, its simply air, ground, naval and then experimentals of each type. Theres also a research/upgrade system that is something of a third resource.

If you just want a single player campaign, I would recommend it. For multiplayer, I don't have an opinion. It ran fine on my desktop which is an e1400 and an ati 4670 with 4GB of ram, so not brand new and shiny.

If your system is beefy AVP is alot of fun. I just dont understand the hate for it. Re playability may not be its strong suit but for this price why not..

Thanks Graxe, I was looking for a single player RTS. The only other RTS I ever played was SC2, so I was mainly curiously about how it plays compared to SC2.

Excellent game but the people left at this point are the diehards. I haven't played it in months even though it was one of my top games of all time. For 2.50 I guess why not, although I got mine with the Orange box.

I bought JC2 at that price last week. Awesome game! It scales impressively well so you can still play it on older stuff or new stuff and have it look quite good. Too much fun stuff to do in that game and there's a ton of Easter eggs to go find!

Very good. Somewhat arcady at times, but not like TF2 is. Good shooting mechanics and possible team play are both good. Depends on the server, but custom maps/mods really make this game great. I paid 30 for it the day it came out. Well worth 2.50 as people still play it a lot.

I upgraded my computer a couple time exclusively for this game and CS:S.

thanks, I think I'll get something more modern in this case. Dont help if not many people are playing it.

How is this? Could it be fun for a kid?

I think I'm an old fart. This game is way too complicated for me. I just was hoping for an alternative to an electric train in the house. Kind of a point and click and watch the trains going around. Make my own layouts. Not this, you might as well be running a real train!

Yeah I was hoping for ME2 for $4.99 like I got ME1 this summer.

But Wings of Prey for $6.00 - that looks tempting to me.

Just wish they had Left 4 Dead the same price as their previous sale...the Holiday Sale doesn't seem to be as good as previous ones =(

It's not over yet. In fact, it's just getting started. I'm hoping they're just teasing us now and will really have some awesome deals next week.

Ok, snooping around the internets a bit I've read some nasty stuff about Russian DRM and support for Wings of Prey.

Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with this?

I've gotten used to visiting the Steam forums to find out nasty info about the games. That one sounds like it might as well equal the risk of downloading a bootleg malware loaded version. Not that I'm advocating that, or anything.

Todays deals could be better...

For those interested in my impression of Rail Works 2, i'll keep it short.

Pro

1) Realistic
2) Somewhat entertaining. Mainly for train buffs.

Cons

1) Really long load times. Greater than 1 minute in some cases on a super fast computer and Hard Drive.
2) Flashing textures all over the place, mainly ones at the distance.

Video card has 'High Quality' selected, anisotropy at 16x, AA at 4X and Transparency Super Sampling enabled. Not sure why all the texture flashing, could be a driver problem.

My 4 year old enjoyed it with me though... We made a passanger drop off and pick-up in real time. Took 35 minutes...
