I also bought it, and while I didn't play the original but, I am kind of disappointed in the game.

First off it seems like the sounds were stolen from the old game. They are also kinda glitchy- in one part where those kamikaze guys ran at me screaming I blew them up but one was still screaming, like the sound was stuck there even though all of the guys were dead.

Second, the graphics aren't that great (your guns look pretty nice and shiny in well-lit, daylight scenes, but thats about it), yet somehow the game is more intensive than I thought. I tried running at 1920x1080 4xAA/16xAF all max settings on my gts 250, and while its playable, at least 30 FPS, there are some problems. Most notably when going into the analyze menu thing FPS drops to 10 for some reason. Then going back into the game there is like a 2 second period of like 5 FPS while the game seems to "re-load." Turning the resolution down gives me 60 FPS most of the time with drops to 50 or even 40 FPS, but the menu problem is still there.

And the gameplay is kinda meh, just kill, kill, kill. . . And there are some cheap parts with just respawning enemies. Maybe I need to turn up the difficulty and play co-op.

Kinda seemed like a waste of $10 considering that for $3.xx I've been addicted to Rome: Total War.

So yeah I guess next time I will try a demo first, or if there is no demo (like in this case), just not buy the game.

I preordered it for $18 and don't regret it -- great mindless entertainment. It runs like glass on my 4890 - not sure what your problem is. The only weird thing I get is after re-loading from a save, I run 30fps for a few seconds and then it jumps back to normal (vsync'd at 60..I don't recall it ever dropping below 59-60). Co-op is great too..I played the Second Encounter more, though. I will likely get that HD version when it comes out.

I think there is at least one area where you hear the screaming voice as part of the background noise in your map area..if not, maybe one of the screamer dudes got stuck behind something and you never found him..I dunno.

Torchlight was also well worth $10.

Defense Grid is a real gem. Zombie Driver gets old real fast. It's not to say that it wouldn't worth like $3 ofc.

I never liked the first one; but the second edition is pretty decent. Might consider that one again when it is available (on sale) in HD.

To be honest the best FPS I've played in years was far cry (not the second one which totally sucks). While the story could use a bit of improvement; and it could have used a few puzzles (like half life 1) the mechanics and open world were the best I've seen to date. I keep hoping there will be a true far cry successor. I know crysis is said to be the successor but it kind of sucks too both with regards to mechanics and large open world. Oh well maybe next year.

Yeah, I guess this isn't my type of game. . . oh well, only $10! Last time this happened I spent $50 on a new release.

Be aware that the Burnout Paradise "Big Surf Island" DLC on the consoles was never released for the pc version. Can't call it Ultimate Package without it! lol Still I think its a solid and fun game and for 7.50 you'll get your money's worth though a lot of that depends on an active community. Try the demo though to see if its your kind of game.

For the Orange Box pack, it says you can gift extra copies of HL:2 and Episode One, but doesn't mention TF2. Does TF2 just get wasted if you already have it?

Prey was replaced by Bioshock for some reason (here in the US). Bioshock is the superior game anyways and for 5 bucks its well worth getting if you don't own it.

From the Prey steam page:

Our sale on Prey was so popular we ran out of keys!! If we can get more, we'll try to bring this deal back. In the meantime, 2K Games has added BioShock to the set of daily deals on Steam, at 75% OFF today only. Happy holidays!

you can't gift tf2. its stupid on their part to not allow every duplicate game to be gifted since they lose the sale of multiple other games.

Man, every day at the Steam offices must be full of champagne, hookers, and cocaine during this Holiday Sale. This how much money they must be pulling in from gamers like us who just CAN'T resist a good bargain.

haha, I bet they just sleep at the Steam offices, wake up and check the sales numbers in the morning, then laugh and bathe themselves in Veuve Clicquot.

Damn I have way too many games to play now, curse you Steam!
Cogs
Assassin's Creed
GTAIV
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
World in Conflict
World in Conflict: Soviet Assault

Not to mention the $4 S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC I bought a couple of weeks ago.

I'll probably grab a couple more and then apart from Mass Effect 2 I won't have to buy any games next year.

Just wanted to let you know that I got L4D2 since it's cheaper now so no more complaining from me since I'll be busy playing it.

I picked up the THQ pack even thought I already have Company of Heroes but it's just too good to pass up since there's so many good games in there and NBA 2K10 since it's only $13.

Gah and I just bought Dragon Age last week. Damn Steam deals. Too much crap to play.

i've been practicing good self control and have yet to give in to any deals yet.

This. I was tempted to buy Killing Floor, but it gets a bad meta score and there is no demo or anything. :/ I have no clue how this game really plays and I've watched some gameplay videos, but I just don't know. :/

Darn, I would have sent you a free trial pass but unfortunately I gave them away to random people last week. Perhaps some kind soul on here who has the game can.

Have you played Left 4 Dead? If so, it's not really like it. It's a lot slower paced, and you don't have various objectives in each map. You spawn with a team up to 6 players and there are 10 different rounds where an increasing number of monsters spawn (and different kinds of them).

After each round you get a 1 minute break to run to the nearest weapon shop and replenish or buy new weapons. There are like (6?) classes in the game which specialize in different weapons. You can level up the class by completing it's specific requirements (i.e. do 2000 damage with a particular gun). The leveled up class stays with you from server to server.

There are lots of custom maps available for the game now and the steam sale has made the community even bigger.

Is it worth it? Well the slower pace may turn off some, but the developers are constantly updating the game which is nice. All in all, if it's still on sale I say it's not a waste -- the game is definitely fun.
