I reread this and enjoyed it:

Enjoyed the words. It was like it was a competitive race, like horse racing!:)

That was what I was going for! Unfortunately people decided to completely derail the thread and round about accuse me of spinning the ifo provided by the survey. :(

Don't let it bother ya! It was a nice thread and the post was well written; it speaks for itself.

I'm surprised not to see HD4850s 4870s to be more popular, these cards are extremely cheap, saw a 4870 going to 55AR on newegg while back and they offer excellent performance/dollar, probably better than most current generation stuff.

Those are based on 55nm chips. They probably literally find some old back-up wafers/chips occasionally or decide to decrease old back-up inventory.
So few are going to be introduced they will never increase in % again, essentially.

Saw this article posted in the PC gaming section, thought it was interesting.
http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/boa...hreadid=128916
January 6, 2012 - Valve® today announced the 2011 growth data for Steam, a leading platform for PC & Mac games and digital entertainment.

During 2011 the platform grew to offer over 1,800 games to over 40 million accounts. Year-over-year unit sales increased by more than 100% for the seventh straight year, and during the 2011 Holiday Sale Steam's simultaneous user number eclipsed the 5 million player mark.

Meanwhile Steam doubled the amount of content delivered in 2011 vs. 2010, serving over 780 Petabytes of data to gamers around the world. To meet the increasing demand for games and services on the platform, the Steam infrastructure more than doubled its service capacity and a new content delivery architecture was deployed to improve user download rates.

Over 14.5 mil copies of Steamworks games were registered during the year, a 67% increase over 2010. Steamworks titles shipped during 2011 include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution , and more. Since the suite of services was released three years ago, Steamworks has shipped in over 400 games.

"Steam and Steamworks continues to evolve to keep up with customer and developer demands for new services and content," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Support for in-game item trading prompted the exchange of over 19 million items. Support for Free to Play (FTP) games, launched in June, has spurred the launch of 18 FTP titles on Steam, with more coming in 2012. Looking forward, we are preparing for the launch of the Big Picture UI mode, which will allow gamers to experience Steam on large displays and in more rooms of the house."
I wasn't sure what a petabyte was , and found this cool graphic, though large !

So if a sample size of 40 million isn't enough I have a feeling that some people would say a sampling size of 40 billion isn't enough...:D

This is the original slide, notice Kepler was slated for 2011 ? Since then they've released a new slide that states 2012.

They also said Fermi delays would not delay Kepler, unfortunately it looks like it has delayed Kepler.

Late to the party again. Myself I hope this time the six month delay behind AMD produces more than a 15% performance upward movement from the fastest AMD Radeon avaiable when they finally release a part.

Last time out I bought some nvidia cards just for the 1.5GB of VRAM, this time it will take a real performance masterpiece considering the 7970 has 3GB VRAM and overclocks likes crazy.

Let's hope they don't mess up again and then take another six months on top to get it right.

So how do you feel about the 7970, a brand new architechure, being very "meh" over the 580, which was released how long ago?

That is why they are currently flooding the market with GPU's? :sneaky:
That is not why they delayed the 7950? :sneaky:

A release date, that is coincidently set 3 days from now, looks far better than TBA.

As good or bad TSMC 40nm and 28nm are/have been, AMD has managed to make lemonade out of lemons, while Nvidia has cut their fingers, bleed all over the place, and got lemon juice in the wounds :D Yeah, I know I'm exaggerating, but Nvidia looks to be on track to repeat being 6 months late. Hopefully looks are deceiving.

Its not the sample size that's troubling, the survey ignored my 4870 and 6770 both using custom PCB's while being fine with my GTX 460 which I don't thing have even had a reference design.

Of course It's just an anecdote, and maybe It has gotten better in a year or so.

You kidding ? 7970 is as fast as the 6990/590. It's a monster! An overclocker's dream!

35% of the people answering the poll here on Anand are picking up one of these beasts on Monday, they must know something you don't

How do you feel about saddling up for another six month wait for 15% more performance ? In six months you can camp newegg and get the first 680 in NA! Looking forward to pics.

I'll keep you posted on my MSI Lightning 7970s in the meanwhile while you wait on nvidia to manage a release.

Expected better of you than a troll post, thanks for coming out though.

So Steam is wothless but a poll with 117 participants is just all dandy?
ROFL

You point out where I have said I think the Steam poll is worthless and maybe you'll have made one valid point in all the wasteful posts you've added to this thread.

I already had to correct you once in this thread on the Kepler delay you were unaware of. Now I need to correct you again on what I think of the Steam poll ? o_O

No you did not...and you still do not want to answer if T10 was launched 2007 and Fermi 2009? :)
Does your old blurry camshot align with reality? YES/NO ;)
It's that simple.

Search is down, so part 2 of my reaply comes after you have answered the bolded part of this post.

My bet is that you won't give an answer...prove me wrong ;)

Is it really necessary to waste time with this on you again ?

Planned launch of Nvidia 28nm and 22/20nm GPUs moved back to 2012 and 2014

Despite Nvidia CEO Huang Jen-hsun previously saying that the company is set to announce its new 28nm GPU architecture at the end of 2011 and 22/20nm in 2013, sources from graphics card makers have pointed out that Nvidia has already adjusted its roadmap and delayed 28nm Kepler and 22/20nm Maxwell to 2012 and 2014.

Everything you've posted amounts to 'no, no it isn't true' and throwing your hands over your ears. If you have some facts, and your need to believe against reality is not a fact, please offer them up.

Oh and this one too, since you need two corrections now it seems

You point out where I have said I think the Steam poll is worthless and maybe you'll have made one valid point in all the wasteful posts you've added to this thread.

You keep saying this over and over and over and over like it's a well known fact. You base your entire internet video card argument on what happened two years ago. Not what happened last year, three years ago, or five years ago, but you fixate on one specific moment in time. You are reliving that time so hard that even if reality lands right on your doorstep you'll likely have already come up with a dozen excuses, all of which will link back to two years ago now.

You have no idea when Nvidia will release their next gen part nor do you have any clue as to how fast it will perform. If it comes out in sooner than six months and performs better than 15% over the hd7970 (which I fully believe it will, but I don't rant and rave about it like you do with your six month 15% motto) I am going to have a great time pointing it out to you over and over and over and over and over and over.... Kinda like what you're doing now! Neat isn't it?

So going on recent history is better than wild speculations ? How did your affirmations of no card from AMD till well past January turn out for you ? Or your guarantees of the 560 coming out six months before it did ? When the search works on the forums again we should look back to the 6 month wait on Fermi and some performance speculations/guarantees from back then...

Or your most recent:

Seriously if the highest end Kepler part only has gtx590 performance, it will be a fail in my book. GTX590 was entirely constrained by it's heat AND power draw, thus it was never able to be the fully realized product it could have been.

Why do you care so much about a card you likely won't even buy anyways ? I have no doubt it would give you great satisfaction to point out if I am wrong about Kepler being late and not much better than Tahiti. I could care less about you being wrong in the past or the future though, as well as having no interest in marking my calendar to point it out to you, funny how that is.

I'm no brand loyalist and I will be happy if Kepler is released sooner than anticipated. That said, you have to look at the facts. Kepler only recently taped out and last I heard there is no prototype yet. Fermi was released roughly a year after tapeout and had several failed prototypes - so kepler may not even be at that step yet.

Just looking at the facts it would be easy to surmise that Kepler is indeed delayed by quite a bit. If they prove me wrong though, its all good. The thing with me I guess is that I always like pulling for the underdog - in this case -- AMD, so i'm happy that 7970 is successful. If Kepler is released i'm sure i'll buy that too on day 1.

Did you also forget to link to me admitting I was wrong with my hd7970 prediction? Nope. You see, the difference between you and I is I will readily admit when I am wrong. You, on the other hand, will just keep coming up with excuses and sour grapes. But if you want to talk predictions, lets bring up your hd6970 Fermi killer prediction. Or your 512 core Fermi part will never get released prediction.

Your track record isn't any better than mine, but I don't go around spouting catch phrase predictions over and over again, as if I believe that if I say it enough it may actually come true.

I fully intend to upgrade next summer. But I don't think that $550 is worth the 30-40% performance increase I'd get over what I have now, especially considering that the fan noise will be considerably louder. I'm waiting until custom AIB cards come and also for more factual, concrete information on Kepler's release.

And I'll stand by my Kepler performance prediction. If the highest end Kepler GPU ends up costing $600 and only equals the gtx590 at 2560p resolution, then I think it will be a Fermi failure all over again. Kepler is supposedly focusing much more on performance per watt, so Nvidia should be able to dial up the core clocks, get amazing performance, and still stay within the 250w TDP level.

Rigggggght. When the 6970 released I said I was disappointed in the card and didn't buy it. 7970 is here now and kicks ass, will be buying a couple 7970 Lightnings when they are available. After the debacle of the 480 heat issue many people doubted on the 512 part, I was amongst a large crowd in that belief. Dude, I admit when I'm wrong or more importantly disappointed in a product from nvidia or AMD so I have no idea where your 'difference between you and I' comment is from. No doubt we are different, what of it ?

Your track record isn't any better than mine, but I don't go around spouting catch phrase predictions over and over again, as if I believe that if I say it enough it may actually come true.

It's not a 'catch phrase'. As I had to correct Lonbjerg in understanding repeatedly in this thread, Kepler is delayed from its initial target. Also, as Blackened pointed out, there is nothing available anywhere in card shots, specs, etc. A couple graphs is all I have seen. There is more pointing to it being a good wait than there is it's coming soon, so I'll go with that.

You seem to be fairly emotional about this as indicated by your pointing out how you will revel in reminding me about it if Kepler comes out in a few months or is faster than the 7970 by a better margin than the 480 was over the 5870. I think this emotion is why it feels like you are hearing it 'over and over again' when I am just discussing my opinion on it. You just don't like my opinion, that's fine.

And I'll stand by my Kepler performance prediction. If the highest end Kepler GPU ends up costing $600 and only equals the gtx590 at 2560p resolution, then I think it will be a Fermi failure all over again.

So an addendum now ? :sneaky: No need, I wouldn't waste my time to make a post reminding you about being wrong when it comes out anyways. Unless you directed more comments like you have been here and I felt it worth while to point out the hypocrisy again.

You're expecting some sort of 8800GTX jump in performance, not going to happen I think. I heard the same thing in the wait on Fermi, from you and other posters. Here we are again with the same lofty hopes.

I do not remember accurate specs, any pics at all, or substantial leaks until just a few weeks (3-4) before the gtx580 came out. That does not at all mean a Kepler launch is imminent, as we all know it isn't. I think we will all get a very, very solid indication of when Kepler is coming during Nvidia's next quarterly earnings conference call in February.

You just don't like my opinion, that's fine.

It's not your opinion I do not like. I can disagree with someone all day long and respect their opinion. But with you, it's how you go telling your opinion. You're crass, abrasive, and often times condescending. You are constantly insinuating fanboyism against nearly EVERYONE who disagrees with you. Yes, there IS plenty of fanboyism that takes place in nearly every single thread around here ON BOTH SIDES but any argument with you, no matter how intelligent I or anyone else tries to keep it, always quickly degrades. I work with a guy who quipped an accurate saying about things likes this: "If you have 1 neighbor who has a problem with you, it's probably the neighbor that is wrong. If you have 10 neighbors who have a problem with you, then it's definitely your fault." I can tell that you are, for the most part, rational and can think original thoughts, but if having a conversation with you in person is anything like it is on the forums, then it's like getting disagreed with and being insulted before ever being given a chance to speak. I need not look any further than this thread for a perfect shining example:
AMD still has 60% of DX11, I could just as easily reword the OP and spin it off another way.
You implied that I "spun" the information from the steam hardware survey to be biased. I clearly did not, and asked you to clarify your statement, but you conveniently ignored me.

No addendum, just using common sense as a metric for comparison.

I do not expect that kind of jump, I never made any predictions about Fermi having that kind of a jump, and I was just as disappointed with the gtx480 as most other sane people were.

I'm not going to indulge your veiled insults. Again more that shows for you this gets personal, and it's unfortunate. You're confusing the very 'sides' of 'fanboyism' you spoke of with having some merit in their collective judgement against those who disagree with them. If that gives you some vindication in your slanted view of me, have at it. What do you think the other collective 'side' thinks going the other direction, though ? o_O

You sound like you have some sort of complex against me, and again, it's unfortunate. You've worked out a nice resume for me of all the perceived wrongs and injustices you've been bean-counting. It's a little awkward and honestly kind of scary.

You take this crap far too seriously. You also give your speculations too much credit as per the analogy you shared and your thinking you have any idea what I am like with the people I share my life with.

Messed up, dude.

I've already explained to you the inaccuracy of that statement. Please go read the book I recommended so that I don't have to keep correcting you.

But that's your opinion, no? He obviously doesn't feel the same. Actually, a lot of us don't considering how many are purchasing one on release. Stock performance that is beyond an overclocked GTX 580 coupled with a seemingly insane overclocking limit all while sipping power is an enticing package to many.
Messed up, dude.
It really is. People get way too worked up over hardware.
