A lot of people don't get caught. That's probably why people keep stealing.
Thats not true.
Wow, are you trolling or do you have brain damage? Im guessing its the latter.

Yeah it is. I work in retail.
The shrink rate is always up because people are always stealing and don't get caught.
Same in most any store you walk into.
Prove it
Ha! I worked at Best Buy in Loss Prevention. But it is all psychological, if you can get something for free and get away with it, what is going to keep you from doing it again? People get greedy. 100% profit. We had three guys who ended up stealing about $20,000 in laptops, but we eventually caught them, because they got greedy. They obviously knew that we had cameras, because they are everywhere. They knew that we saw them. But they kept doing it. One day when i saw them come in. We shut the doors down and called the police, when they walked over to computers they realized something was up. By that time it was too late. They tried to break the door, but the police got them.
My best friend used to do Asset Protection at a Kmart. People would come in to steal bottle after bottle of baby formula for their drug production. I am sure most people figure that if they can do it once, they will never do it again. But afterwards they realize that they got away with it, and they keep doing it. Eventually, everybody will get caught.
Now of course some people may do it and never do it again. But it is like an addiction.
The thing I don't get if these 3 guys were stealing $20,000 in laptops why did you all not call the police when they just started stealing? Makes no sense.

And tell them what? In the beginning we had no idea what hit us. There were other factors beyond my control that we had to fix before we could catch them. But the point is that we are not stupid and we aren't going to sit around and let somebody steal from us. We actually made a lot of other things better and we caught a lot of other people that were stealing products too.
Somebody said it, and yes, in retail, I think it is about 70-80% of shrink is internal. Which makes sense. The employees know the loopholes and have it easier to take something.

Simple, to sell them. What else is so small and compact and is worth $1000-$3000? They were pros, at least to what I have seen. But like I said, they got greedy.

Funny to see this topic, had 3 people steal today from my store. They literally had some 50 DVDs in their pockets, jackets etc.... it was so obvious. Unfortunetely there is little that can be done, it is not allowed to physically stop someone, but we did get liscense plates and did stop them from getting most of the product, they dropped alot and ran. Police put out a state wide alert on their vehicle since we had it all on video including their liscense plate #. Will they get caught? Who knows.

I suppose the thrill or the desire to get things or sell them.

Theives are worthless. Forget the nonsense about not touching them, lawsuits are out of control. What would happen is they'll try to steal stuff, you'd stop them, then they play injured and steal money from the company. They should be dragged outside and shot.

They have no guilt for the people who they are stealing from?

I suppose they do, they just don't talk about it
