A lot of people don't get caught. That's probably why people keep stealing.

Thats not true.

Wow, are you trolling or do you have brain damage? Im guessing its the latter.

Some people are pro thieves. Especially in grocery stores. I used to trip around with a guy who, no lie, would steal $200+ in meats everyday. He was so good at it, never seen him get busted. Sell it all for beer money and be back in the morning. Thievery is more rampant than many people realize.

a buddy of mine is a chronic klepto...he tried to steal a darth maul technics set from wal-mart and got caught cause the security guard saw it under his arm when the wind blew his jacket up right in front of the store...he also got caught stealing jock itch cream from a local grocery store with $700 bucks or so in his pocket...weird fvcker

Yeah it is. I work in retail.

The shrink rate is always up because people are always stealing and don't get caught.

Same in most any store you walk into.

Prove it

Ha! I worked at Best Buy in Loss Prevention. But it is all psychological, if you can get something for free and get away with it, what is going to keep you from doing it again? People get greedy. 100% profit. We had three guys who ended up stealing about $20,000 in laptops, but we eventually caught them, because they got greedy. They obviously knew that we had cameras, because they are everywhere. They knew that we saw them. But they kept doing it. One day when i saw them come in. We shut the doors down and called the police, when they walked over to computers they realized something was up. By that time it was too late. They tried to break the door, but the police got them.

My best friend used to do Asset Protection at a Kmart. People would come in to steal bottle after bottle of baby formula for their drug production. I am sure most people figure that if they can do it once, they will never do it again. But afterwards they realize that they got away with it, and they keep doing it. Eventually, everybody will get caught.

Now of course some people may do it and never do it again. But it is like an addiction.

The thing I don't get if these 3 guys were stealing $20,000 in laptops why did you all not call the police when they just started stealing? Makes no sense.

And tell them what? In the beginning we had no idea what hit us. There were other factors beyond my control that we had to fix before we could catch them. But the point is that we are not stupid and we aren't going to sit around and let somebody steal from us. We actually made a lot of other things better and we caught a lot of other people that were stealing products too.

Somebody said it, and yes, in retail, I think it is about 70-80% of shrink is internal. Which makes sense. The employees know the loopholes and have it easier to take something.

Ok I thought you all knew they were stealing at first. What were they stealing $20,000 in laptops for?

Simple, to sell them. What else is so small and compact and is worth $1000-$3000? They were pros, at least to what I have seen. But like I said, they got greedy.

Funny to see this topic, had 3 people steal today from my store. They literally had some 50 DVDs in their pockets, jackets etc.... it was so obvious. Unfortunetely there is little that can be done, it is not allowed to physically stop someone, but we did get liscense plates and did stop them from getting most of the product, they dropped alot and ran. Police put out a state wide alert on their vehicle since we had it all on video including their liscense plate #. Will they get caught? Who knows.

Whats happens to the honest people who bought the stolen laptops from them then ?

🙁

Thats what I hate not being able to stop them. Though there is a way to stop every single thief that shoplifts.

Who says those people are honest? Granted if they sold them on Ebay, then they are just other normal people. But these three guys lived in the heart of Hartford, CT. I doubt they sold them on Ebay. They probably sold them to friends, or to a pawn shop. The friends would have known they were stolen, and obviously the owner of the pawn shop would know they are stolen, but what does he care? He is making the money off of them.

Back to my friend who worked at Kmart. He once told me of a story of a person who stole about 400 DVD's over a month's time. They tracked them all down to one pawn shop. They all still had to Kmart price tags on them! The owner obviously knew they were stolen....

I have never thought about stealing anything in my life either. Except for maybe mp3s. I have always worked for what I buy. To me, I like to work and get the paycheck, then to go and buy something knowing I worked hard for it.

Theives are worthless. Forget the nonsense about not touching them, lawsuits are out of control. What would happen is they'll try to steal stuff, you'd stop them, then they play injured and steal money from the company. They should be dragged outside and shot.

I suppose the thrill or the desire to get things or sell them.

They have no guilt for the people who they are stealing from?

I suppose they do, they just don't talk about it...who would want to listen???

I don't understand how this guilt doesn't destory them.

When I was a little kid I used to steal stuff from grocery stores.. and never got caught 😱 Why? Because I can't afford it and was pretty sure I wouldn't get caught.

I feel bad about it now though.. storekeepers were nice people 🙁
