I'm getting a new laptop. Now i'm trying to figure out should i install firefox on that or just run IE. IE7 is coming out soon.

Ive used firefox for over 1 year now. I love the IE like format, the super pop up protection. I dont use the tab. But what i hate was some sites didn't show up right. it would be all goofed up someway some how. I'm sure a lot of ppl will back me up on that.

IE, has all those add ons that can be like firefox so its the same thing. But i feel most spy/ad ware are made to target IE more or less. because when i started firefox and i would scan my comp. i would get like 1 per month at most. but while i was running IE i would get 10 or so. so i dunno.

How many ppl went back to IE ? and why.

If you're talking about serious spyware/adware, like applications and not just tracking cookies, then consider a Limited account as your daily-driver account. No matter what browser you decide to use, it will be a huge boost in security when your account, even if successfully exploited, inherently lacks the power to take down your firewall, kill your antivirus software's services, install software or tamper with the Registry and the Windows directory.

Non-administrator accounts are all the spyware prevention we need where I work, other than (of course) running an enterprise-class antivirus/anti-intrusion software. Think about using this capability, it's been around since WinNT came out.

Strictly speaking, if the site doesn't pass the W3C validator, misrenderings should not be unexpected. You may not care, but you should know this. You could email the webmaster of the site and ask him to code to W3C specifications, as many others are doing, but if you remain steadfast on your pragmatic approach, then you need to decide if the misrenderings are too annoying. If most pages are still fuctional, I wouldn't worry about it.

Now, if the page misrenders when the markup is all correct, then that's definitely the browser's fault (with older standards it may be the standard's fault), and a bug report should be filed.

Use a limited account too. And disable ActiveX in IE except when you need it.

well yea you do have a point. I mean all the high end sites work well. but the smaller pages dont. It does become annoying at 1 point. To be honest i never really noticed a diffrence between the 2. i just felt firefox was better. because of the automatic pop up blocker. and the whole google thing.

but that new IE7 is coming out. i figure it should be targeted the death of firefox. with tabbing auto popup blocker and skins

FF is free software, it won't die until no one has any interest in maintaining it and that won't be until something free and better comes along, which IE7 isn't.

I do admit ie had got a little smoother/faster rendering engine under the hood but everything else is in firefox's corner.

If IEs rendering engine is any better it's only because web devlopers target it instead of alternate browsers. If 90% of the world used a gecko based browser and neither engine was modified, in a few years almost everything would work better on gecko.

I wouldn't hold my breath for IE7 - it wont be released until Longhorn appears so Mid 2006 at the earliest. Thats a whole lot of time to get your machine p0wned because you're using IE 🙂 😀

try Avant Browser. It has an IE like interface (meaning the pages render properly) and also has tabbed browsing, built in search bar and all that really cool stuff. might be what you're looking for

I believe that is incorrect. IE7 will start appearing this summer. It was moved up due to delays in Longhorn.

I installed Opera about a year ago to give it a shot. Now I can't uninstall the thing. Uninstall complains it can't find a file it needs. Bastages!
